I can't get any more than 10 days intraday data on charts. I have QT running on two different machines and have installed the patch on both, but still am limited to 10 days on both.

I went to options/edit preferences/charts/Multi-Day Timeframes and increased max days on charts to 20. I have tried it on both machines and have rebooted. I applied the patch with QT closed.

On one machine I extracted the files directly to the QT folder in program files and on the other machine I copied and pasted the files. Same result on both. Any help would be great.

  2. QT was great back in the day for trading stocks. Sad to see it go. :(

What quote source are you using?
If you're backfilling you might be limited to 10 days of immediate backfill. Then you have to let the balance of the data accumulate over the next 10 trading days. After you have 20 days accumulated, for every new day added the oldest day is deleted.

  4. @J_Medved ... I have spent quite a bit of time with TOS and sadly find it so inferior to QT. Harrison wrote me and said it has more capabilities so I dived in but, am not thrilled. The Thinkscript code is okay but, I find the charts are hard to read, the candles and volume are different than QT charts. Configuring the charts is a pain and they don't hold as much information because of the huge headers over every indicator.

Can you recommend a replacement software or are you building anything new to replace QT? Any chance, TD Ameritrade will give the program back to you LOL? I wish ...

I am using the TD Ameritrade feed. I will give it a try this week and see if it starts to accumulate days.

  6. with TDA as a backfill source, you should be getting 60 days backfill. And even without the patch, you should get 20 days, not 10. Are you able to set max # of days to be more than 20? If not, then you are not running the patch. Also, make sure that the backfill source is set to TDA on OPTIONS/Data sources menu, BACKFILL tab.

j_medved, that did it. It was set to "default backfill site". I switched it to TDA and it bumped me up to 20 days. It will allow me to run the max # of days up to 60 days now. Thank you for the help.

I am going to speculate here as to what is happening. Selling QT to TDA a few years back typically precludes the original owner from starting a competitive alternative. I believe it is called a "non compete clause". There have not been any beta versions or updates to QT since 9/23/2010. Scuttlebutt is that QT is going to die on the vine sometime down the road. But nothing firm ever is stated. The original owner has stated that there is nobody savvy enough at TDA to keep the thing going due to lack of intelligence and/or motivation.

Now here is the interesting part. The original owner has always been drifting around the periphery regarding QT over these past few years. Still answers questions. Why? Well, how would you feel if your life's work was simply tossed in the trash?

For all you QT users, and I am one since the late 90's, fear not. Read between the lines. If/when TDA gives up on QT completely, I have a feeling somebody will swoop in with an alternative. I have always been perplexed why there was never a monthly charge for this software. Most other charting services are about $100.00 per month. If you are a profitable trader this is a minimal cost of doing business. I for one would not object to rewarding the inventor of making money off of this product. There are other charting software products out there such as Esignal and Multicharts.
But if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I think things will work out for the better. Let's wait and see.

  9. Here is the email I got from QT support about 3 weeks ago......

No, there is no datafeed that will still be supported after the drawdown, but that is not necessarily the end of this year, as a date hasn't even been set yet.

QT is in the beginning of the draw-down process. Too early to have very much info available. QT was programmed in Delphi for Windows 95 and is rapidly reaching an unmaintainable state, so we are trying to integrate as many features as we can in to ThinkOrSwim from TD Ameritrade before that happens. When the drawdown is complete, QT will no longer be supported or maintained. In the meantime, we recommend trying out ThinkOrSwim. If you need any assistance with it or a walkthrough, just let us know and we'll see if we can get someone at TD Ameritrade to give you a call.

    Cheers,
    Harrison

I do not think TDAT managed and maintained charting software will be in any way an adequate replacement for QuoteTracker. I will continue to use QT until it no longer adequately works for me and then I will have to find my next best charting software.
