@kralcd, Medved Trader was written from scratch. The layouts/charts stored in QT cannot be used in MT. however, it doesn't take much to configure everything and you should find things pretty comfortable in MT especially if you used QT previously. IB is fully supported. To get the beta, you can just register and post a beta request at http://forums.medvedtrader.com or email medvedtrader.com support (or PM me your email address and I will send you instructions). Our message boards are a pretty good source for the various info, but nothing beats just loading the program and looking around.
Hi - I'm having a problem with QT. I have several virtually identical QT installations on several different PCs (all running XP). I consider one of the installations as nominal and usually just run that one. Recently, on the nominal installation, the data feed (TDAmeritrade) would stop after about 10 sec to 1 min. It would start again only if I close the program and restart. But it would then quickly stop again. Hovering the mouse over the red status light it says "ERROR: CONNECT FAILED." I initially thought it was an issue with TDAmeritrade, but when the other installations were tested, they worked just fine. I could find no issues with the settings. Streaming is set to "TD AMERITRADE - Streamer (Clients Only)." Rebooting doesn't help. I copied the QT directory from a working PC to the non-working one and it still wouldn't work. I disabled the anti-virus and the firewall for another test and got the same result. I really can't think of any changes that have been made to the nominal system that coincide with QT breaking. I think there may have been an antivirus update (AVG) and/or maybe a flash update. I can't quite remember... I'm running out of ideas and would appreciate any thoughts you guys might have. Thanks.
if you are using the same login, and it works on one and gets the failed connection on the other, it would usually be a firewall or some other security software blocking access. Try explicitly excluding QT, or just forget that and get MT beta
Thanks Jerry. It's pretty awesome that you spend some your valuable time helping folks out with QT problems. It's close to certain that I'll eventually switch to MT. I was so sure that switching out the QT directory with one from a working computer would work, I considered it cheating. I'm not so sure I'm dealing with a QT problem and not a more general problem that just happens to affect QT. I'm worried that the other installations will likewise suddenly simply cease to function and that whatever it is that's causing problems with QT would cause problems with MT as well. I looked closer at the firewall. QT is already explicitly listed as an exception. If you remove the exception and then try to run QT, Windows will immediately (and I mean "immediately!") display an alert and ask if it's alright for this program to access the network. I tried running QT in Windows "Safe mode with networking" and got the same result as before. I also tried bypassing my router and plugging the ailing pc directly into my modem thinking that maybe the router is firewalling that computer differently for some reason. I'm not sure if have restore points activated on that computer. That might be the next thing to try. It's strange that it would work for a few seconds and even update all the prices in a portfolio and then just stop. If I hover my mouse over the status buttons at the bottom of the QT window it says I'm successfully logged on. It's like TDAmeritrade is singling out this one computer as one it doesn't like and won't stream to. Strange, strange, strange...well anyway, I really do appreciate your help. Thanks again. L8r.
how many apps do you have connecting via the same TDA account across various computers? if there are more than 2 per account, there will be a problem
Hi Jerry - never more than one. I've always assumed more than that wouldn't be allowed and have always been a little skittish about testing it out. Thanks for helping me troubleshoot this. L8r.
QT not backfilling NYSE listed stocks that are 4 letter tickrs(qihu, abbv etc) Anyone having such problem? How to fix?
QT is using an old API for stockwatch. I can see where there would be problems. Get MT - it is updated and should work with Stockwatch far better. PM me your email and I will email you the beta download
