Jeff, Are you telling me that Ninja Trader is designed different from QT therefore it can backfill 60 day's data at once? How about MT? May I try the Beta version?
Ninja either gets the data from another source or if from IB, then they are either not getting 1 minute data (5 minute data could be retrieved for longer periods) or are making multiple requests. I cannot speak for Ninja about their design decisions and target audience, but for QT and for MT, the ability to backfill more than a handful of charts without having to wait 10 minutes trumps the higher # of days, particularly when 1) QT/MT stores whatever it gets, so it will have more data as days go by 2) you can use other datafeeds like IQFeed to backfill. MT will be able to backfill 10 days using IB. 60 with IQFeed
I've got to say that Yahoo H/Backfill is very unreliable. No data for any of my ASX stocks for Nov 4. Fortescue Metals one of the largest companies on ASX no data since Oct 31. Renders QT useless imo. What's the purpose of backfill data compared to historical data? As there is free Tradingroom data there.
I have an account with IB and haven't used QT for several months. I applied the new patch but I still can't access IB Hist Backfill. At one point I had a subscription for QT but then the service stopped. Can I use QT with only an IB account? Can I use QT if I have a TD account?
jerry, wasn't there some kind of a patch for bigcharts some time ago? I have a zip file in my QT directory called bigcharts.zip that contains a file called bigcharts.bfl. It doesn't seem to have any effect when it is extracted to the QT directory but could a bfl file fix the problem with bigcharts now?
There is no patch for BigCharts. The service that QT was using was shut down. The data that their flash charts use is in completely different format (so its not just a matter of changing the URL that is being used) and is useless anyway because you can only get 1 year of 1 day data.
Hi jerry Is there a way that i can first scan only my historical chart list first then drill down on any stock of interest in the smaller freqency (5min,30 min.etc) ? This would be a great time saver for me rather than now where i go into the smaller frequency then the historical . thanks for a great software Cheers john
I guess that depends on what you mean by "scan only my historical chart list". How exactly do you scan a chart list?
