QuoteTracker To Be Finished End of 2011

  1. No idea. Haven't looked at what TD Waterhouse has in a long time. I am sure we can probably get snapshot quotes to work (I think that is what we had in QT). Don't know what (if anything) they use for streaming, and if we would be able to use it.

It would have to wait till at least beta.

Jerry, long time registered user of QT via Windows XP. Simply the the best intraday charting program there is. I use live Australian etrade quote data with backfill from Tradingroom and it works flawlessly. I trade through the etrade platform though.

I have only one request for the new program. Love to be able to use Equivolume and/or CandleEquivolme charts. Anything else I wouldn't change, menus, charts, portfolios, they all work just great.

  3. that is certainly a possibility. However that would not be there on day 1. Our first priority is to get all the basic charting done and anything else that we had in QT.

  4. Any plans for QT to become Mac friendly? Thanks

  5. I guess it is closer now than QT was, but still not too likely.

Hi Jerry...could you refresh my memory on exactly how to start up QT in LOG mode. QT is still locking up 5-10 times a day, I've tried deleting (or renaming) SNEWS.DMP and SDATA.DMP and even replacing stocks.exe (3.9.8a) with a newly downloaded version, but still have the problem. It usually locks up after starting, within a minute or less, but if I restart it five or six times it will eventually work for an hour or two, sometimes longer...but always ends up locked up.

I'm hoping by looking at the log file I might spot something that is coincidental to the lockup...not that I know what I'm looking at, but some detective work might be fruitful. Any other suggestions would also be welcome.

    commandline would be
    STOCKS.EXE LOG

You can also try deleting CHLINES.DAT while QT is closed (trend lines on charts)

Jerry...in looking at the log file, is it always the last line that would/might be connected to a QT crash? Or could it be any line within a certain time period.

  9. QT is multi-threaded, so it may not be the last line in the log

  10. Jerry and Mike,

As a daily QuoteTracker user from someone who trades for a living, THANK YOU both for taking on the endeavor to create your new Medved Trader application! (And as an ex-IT guy, thank you for writing it in C#/.NET and NOT in JAVA.)
Every time I get a survey request from my TD Ameritrade account, I slam them for dropping QuoteTracker and having instead decided to waste time on that unusable and rigid ThinkorSwim product of theirs.

If I might suggest one thing, it would be the following:

Add the ability to be able to set chart periods based on the frequency. For example, I normally trade off of a frequency of 3-minute charts set to a period of 510 minutes (1 day plus 2 hours). However, if a stock takes off quickly, I’ll quickly switch to a 1-minute chart with a smaller period of 180 minutes. (Otherwise the data on the 1-minute chart is too bunched up with the leftover period of 510 minutes.) While I can quickly switch to a 1-minute chart via CTRL-1 (and back to the 3-minute chart via CTRL-2), it retains the 510 minute period, so the data is too bunched up on the 1-minute chart (see attachment QuoteTracker Charts.jpg).

I noticed that TD Ameritrade’s StrategyDesk product handles this well….perhaps it’s their Auto Scale setting for the price scale? Also, on StrategyDesk, you can add, and then click the interval you want (bottom right on attachment) and it keeps the spacing of the bars the same….that would be nice. (Or, perhaps it would be easier to have an option to just set the spacing of the bars no matter what the frequency the chart is.) (See attachment Strategy Desk Charts.jpg)

I’ll be happy with whatever your new products looks like and gladly pay for its usage. Thanks again!
