One neat little feature in QT is that you can disable quotes to your "other" Portfolio pages while continuing to receive quotes on the Portfolio page that you currrently have up on your main screen. You can do this by going into "Data Sources" and making sure that the option "Fetch Quotes from other Portfolio" is not enabled. You also have the ability to simply "stop" quotes to various Portfolios as well, while continuing to received quotes in other Portfolio pages, etc. Simply go to the "Portfolio" tab and scroll down to the bottom of the menu where it stays to either "start quotes" or "stop quotes". You can set this option for each individual Portfolio watch list. In this way, you will be able to seriously cut down on some of the bandwidth and power that QT is requiring/demanding of your data feed connection AND microprocessor and memory.
Something else I am going to try is to set QT and IQFeed to one CPU affinity and all other processes that have that option to the other CPU affinity. When trading I usually set QT and IQFeed and any other running programs to one CPU and TWS and ButtonTrader to the other CPU - I do this to isolate TWS and BT to get efficient, uninterrupted trade execution. Also I have experimented with CPU priority before, but I'll include that in this test as well to see if it makes any difference.
Thanks for starting this thread Gord, I am having the same problem. QT freezing even with no other programs running. I have 2 gb Ram, it appears to be a recent problem. I am using IQ feed. I am sure Jerry will find the problem. QT is great program, very flexible.
With PTE97 having the same problem as you are Gord, it seems much less likely that memory stick defects could be the cause. That being so one would wonder what you and PTE97 might have in common. I have been using QT for some time now and at present am glitch free. Best of luck to you both in your search for the cause. lj
Have you tried a COMPLETE reinstall of QT? I have been running QT for years and and had some lock up recently(couple mths ago). I just bit the bullet and did a full reinstall.(preferences and all). Worked like a charm fwiw.
Yep, customer support is second to none. The best in the business. I had E-Signal and switched the QuoteTracker. I'd have no problem paying $200+ a month for QT. E-Signal is the one that should be free. I'd erase the hard drive and do a clean install. Last resort but it would most likely fix the problem. Whenever I do that it feels like I have a new machine.
Oh yeah - I've tried old versions, older versions and virgin versions. All display the same problem. There is a conflict somewhere.
I did a clean install last fall. I have made images using Acronis in progressive stages of OS settings and program downloads that I can go back to at any time. I have reset twice since beginning the troubleshooting of this problem. Because it has included so much tweaking and adjusting of the OS I'll do it again once the problem is solved (or if I move on to another charting program).
