Is today Quadruple witching? or Triple witching day? I hear it refered to both. Expiration of Stocks Options, Futures Options, Stocks Index Futures Options, and Stock Index Options...
Quadruple Witching A day on which contracts for stock index futures, stock index options, stock options, and single stock futures (SSF) all expire. This is similar to the triple witching hour, except that the quadruple witching hour sees also the expiry of SSFs. Quadruple witching days occur on the 3rd Friday of March, June, September and December. I hope that helps a bit.
Awesome. That helps a LOT. Single Stock Futures Options... Thats crazy considering basically no one trades SSFs.
so what causes all the extra volatiliy? and is there a reference anywhere on the web or a books that tell you how to take advantage of this and when?
""The Aura of the Triple Witch September Triple Witching is not to be trifled with. The Dow has risen ten of the last fifteen years on Monday but nine losses were registered on Triple-Witching Friday. Triple-Witching Week can be cruel falling in five of the last six years. The week after Triple Witching has been brutal, down twelve of the last fifteen, averaging a Dow loss of -1.1%."" www.hirschorg.com/ai_alert_09_08_2005.asp
