Story of my dad. Smoked all his life. Never wanted to quit, never tried to quit. Then when he turned 50 he quit cold turkey. Never smoked again. Go figure.
Sorry I know it's not much of help. Just interesting.

2. Try a hypnotist.
When YOU git yo' mind right" about quitting, acro, it will make the difference. Ask my wife. I didn't gain weight, didn't rip her tits off and chit like that and all while I worked in an office with two other smokers.- one was a three pack a day idiot. ( only lit two matches a day.

You ain't addicted to nicotine dude- you just have a preprogramable habitual obsession - but you have to be damn pissed off at yourself and 110% committed to quitting before ponying up the bucks for the ONE session with the therapist.

Actually I spent $30 along with 150 other people in a Marriott ballroom and dude- I LEFT THAT PLACE A NON-SMOKER.
NO MORE DEPENDENCE.

-Believe it our not - ONE session- That is my story.
( pack a day for over 15 years- Salem menthol)

If you got to do something with your hands - then pocket pool - slower.

3. Acronym,

Whenever you are "really" ready to quit try laser therapy. It worked for me.

http://www.annepenmantherapy.com/

I have been at parties, drinking, with people around me smoking and haven't even felt the urge....never thought it could be possible.

After the therapy you have to promise yourself never, ever, ever...to touch a cigarette in your life again, and follow through on that promise. The firsts days will be the most difficult.

In my case the office I went to told me (unofficially) that they would give me unlimited treatments (for free) until I quit. I used two treatments.

I know it sounds crazy when you are hooked, but trust me, it is possible. It was actually very easy with this therapy.

I sometimes can't believe I used to smoke with the passion I did for so long and that today I am nicotine free. Just like that. Impressive.

Good luck!

:)

4. Cheers optionpro007!
The stopping was about the same for me. I did have a $20 bet with a guy at work who also smoked Salem's whom I would never have wanted him to win. - A little negative motivation doesn't hurt to reinforce the new "habit".

5. Interesting, hadnt heard of laser, or holistic laser. Why would laser work differently to accupuncture or accupressure ?

Its crazy-i get chest pains from my blood pressure RETURNING to normal, they've just got to go.
Encouraging, a lot of people seem to have dumped them with few or no problems.

So, that's what i'll do.

6. I smoked most of my adult life.....2-3 packs a day when I was smoking. I quit a variety of times....one time 5 years or so, then started back up. I was always able to quit. The challenge for me was always 6 months- 1year down the road when I had a drink and someone I was with lit up.

My two most successful times for quitting were both cold turkey. I think the withdrawal symptoms peak around 3 days, and taper down after that. It gets easier after a week as one of your other posters mentioned. I think during that first month getting into exercise helps alot. Meditation is very helpful.

I did acupuncture for 1 week one time. Very helpful. Helps relax you during that first week. Combined with meditation helps to take the edge off.

This time I've been off for about 6 years. Gained some weight this time which I never did in the past. Took something to get the weight off. Cold turkey again. First week hell, tapering down after the first 3 days. Just gotta tough it out.

I've done gum, patches, etc. You get off the cigarettes, then you gotta quit the gum. I can remember one time having a cigarette while I had the patch on. I think these things have done well for some....but again, cold turkey you just quit....tough it out for a week.

After that first week it's all about maintaining. Stay away from the things that trigger you wanting the cigarette. Alcohol used to make me want a cigarette...so I quit drinking for a while. Coffee. So I quit that too. I learned how to quit stuff...and just feel crappy for a few days...time passes, and you eventually feel better.

You can control yourself and your impulses. You just have to want to do it.

7. This laser therapy consists of applying rays of florescent light to certain parts of your body just like in acupuncture but instead of needles a ray of light is used.

This way of lighting your sensory system makes you high for a couple days....and it's then, when you are free from withdrawals that you can think straight....at least for a few days...and that in my case helped me break the suicidal cycle of poisoning my body with nicotine all day long.(subliminal message :) )
