Quicken to Esignal

Discussion in 'Trading Software' started by Jasra, May 26, 2002.

  1. I've found myself using Nextrend (just the basic real-time version) quite a bit lately and have been relatively happy with it. It seems to be more reliable than ESignal and IQChart.

By the way, I couldn't agree more about TC2000 for end-of-day charts. Best value for the money in my opinion.

  2. I find E-Sig very easy to use and configure . As for Nextrend I left e-sig after my one year sub expired. Month to Month was to expensive for e-sig and I did not want to sign up again for a year. So I tried Nextrend. At first I was not crazy about the software because it is a little cumbersome to set up. But the more I used it the more I liked it . They have some nice features and a reliable data feed. My only major complaint was they did not have Tabalature charts which I use a lot .
When E-sig had the special for old customers to come back I took it. The price was good and there was no symbol limit ( not that I really care about that because I don't track more then 40 stocks at a time). The candle charts are great in the advanced chart but not in the regular charts for e-sig
If Nextrend still offers the one month free try them out , it is well worth it.
I used Qcharts when I first started to trade 2.5 years ago , loved the software but could not put up with the crappy data feed.

I have one idea to add to the discussion for all, who find ESignal's standard charts not really adequate to trade with, and don't want to switch to Advanced charts for 50/60$ more.

I've been using ESignal together with Ensign Software http://www.ensignsoftware.com, which really was a great deal, until I switched to QCharts due to the expensive ESignal Datafeed in April.

I had the QQL Package for backup and scans, and switched back to ESignal, when they offered me their 19.95$ deal. But as most agree the standard charts are not adequate to trade with, even as backup, it's difficult.
So I tried to subscribe again for Ensign software, but ESignal did not offer a subscription to Ensign with their QQL-Package.

As the ESignal DataManager was the same I used before, I asked the developer of Ensign, if we could setup a trial to test the connection, and it worked.

I'm now subscribed to the ESignal QQL-Package and subscribed directly at Ensign for their software. Instead of using a stripped down version of ESignal, I now use Ensign as charting software for 39.95$. It cost more than QQL but the software is much more flexible to use.

While appreciative of everyone's alternate suggestions, I've decided to stick with QuoteTracker. While there were things I liked better about QQL, I already don't miss it at all anymore. In fact, I'm not sure which program I would choose right now if both were available. QT is very flexible and quick enough to move around in. It has little extras I like, such as a customizable chart frequency (which I use for sub-minute candlesticks) and a portfolio column which compares today's volume to the average volume of a stock. It seems that the programmers' are much more interested in trying to make the user interface optimal -- eSignal, for example, doesn't even have a pull down menu for changing portfolios like QQL had, whereas QT does. And the customer support is outstanding.

For a data feed I subscribed to the Canadian company StockWatch.com. I'm in Seattle, near their servers in Vancouver, so maybe that's been a help. There was a little glitch today on one Raw Data chart (Time & Sales equivalent) that I was able to clear up by closing and opening the one window. But it has seemed like a good feed to me.

I highly recommend QT, which is free with advertising (or ad-free for $7/month) and can use any of many datafeeds (including, for example, Datek's or Scottrade's as well as paid feeds; but not eSignal's). The upshot is that you can try it for free for as long as you like.

    Hi Gerald

I fully concur regarding your comments on Medved QT.

I was a QQL for nearly 2 years.

On June 1st, I switched to Canada Stockwatch (CSW).

I also trade on a private mIRC channel with other Canadian traders - all of whom use CSW. We all subscribe to their data AND charts.

In my opinion CSW is the biggest POS- to ever come down the pike.

Perhaps the data is displayed differently within QT charts but within CSW charts - the upper and lower Bollinger Bands are frequently cut off.

Same with stochastics when they get near the top of the chart.

The charts do not vertically auto-center enough.

Also I find using MACD to be useless since - they often are flattened on top of each other

Also you must use a slider to manually move the charts to the right as time passes.

I think it was June 20th when all of us lost the live ticker for about 3/4 of a hour.

These are the most primative charts I've had the misfortune to use.In fact I often remark that these charts are optimized for Windows 3.1

I also don't care for the fact instead of having a workspace like QQL -you end up with 25+ open windows that hog up the task bar.

One person in our group payed the $2 monthly fee in order to use CSW feed with QT but was unsuccessful.

LMAO - as I type this I get an e-mail from CSW stating my credit card was invalid - (they entered the wrong expiry date). So much for attention to detail. (goes hand in hand with the product). At first they told me to contact the credit card company - implying the problem was with me.Then they don't even offer an apology
    for their mistake.

I agree that Medved constantly strives to improve their product.
Their e-mail support is outstanding -even during non-trading hours. I wish they would offer their own feed in a complete package similiar to QQL.

Gerald - if any of this does not apply to Medved QT - could you please post a reply.

    thank you

I've never been on the StockWatch site except to register for the feed for QT. The StockWatch website was almost impossible to navigate even for the limited purpose of subscribing to the feed ... so your comments on their charting, etc., don't surprise me. The feed has been excellent, however, with the exception of one brief glitch -- and I'm not sure if the problem with that is due to StockWatch or to QT; and it was remediable as soon as I noticed it (the problem being that I didn't notice for a little while and kept thinking the Ask and Bid were staying at this one place ... duh!).

I have to deal with NONE of the StockWatch problems to which you refer. It's just a feed, works fine (including backfill), and lets me use QT to my heart's content. (Actually, when I say the StockWatch feed is excellent, I should add that I'm judging it from only two days' worth of use. Previously I relied on the feed from my Datek account.)

Wanted to let you know that the Stockwatch feed has cost me a lot of money today - it's been consistently 2 to 5 minutes delayed. I have no idea why. Hence, I can't recommend it after all. I'm back to Datek for now, will try Stockwatch again later today, but can't rely on it, obviously, until it's timely.
