I'm about to start trading with Interactive Brokers, but I'm a little confused about trading after hours. I searched around but couldn't find any good answers.

You can buy and sell stocks after hours right? Like buy a stock at 6pm and then sell it at 6am for a profit (12 hours later)? What about weekends?

If I have a conditional order (like a trailing stop) will it execute after hours if the condition is met, or will it wait until the market opens?

    Thanks :)

  3. If the relevant exchanges are open then IB will connect you to whatever capabilities they offer.

In some cases the after hours offering from an exchange is more limited. You must also turn on the out of hours order capabilities in tws.

As always, you have a bit of homework to do.

if you want to trade you can do it, if you don't you can do that too.

  5. You have to configure TWS to execute orders after hours on the 'Configure>Orders>STK' page.

First, check the exchanges' website for the stock you want to trade. Read the trading information: specification, hours, settlement, etc.

    Then read up on TWS.
