[QUESTION] - TradeStation EasyLanguage

Discussion in 'Strategy Building' started by Tall Mike, Jul 3, 2020.

  1. No question.

Yeah, I don't think a backtest will hold up well at all, I just need a starting point to even see if I'm onto something. Then from there maybe I can do a walk-forward analysis.

No I find it's not very reliable in loading data especially when you want to load data in different timeframes. I don't know whether that's the problem of the platform of the limitation of the language or both but when I used C# in the same platform, the data loaded lot better. The problems with the execution of trades are really the problem with the server I find. I tried several of those 3rd-party trading software that provide programmable real-time trading solutions, they all suffer from the same problems in real-life trading.

The best programmable backtesting facility I find is C# in MultiCharts. Its flavour of C# is a bit difficult to learn than what's in other software (they've dumbed down a lot since the first version; it used to be lot more machine level at the beginning) but its software is the most robust I find and their customer service is lot more responsive and knowledgeable as well.

  4. When you posting in tradestation forums, make sure to post your question in " Easylanguge and sofware support" category. If you post in other category, support team will not be there to read it.

You need to ask specific questions. I'm new to tradestation, and my questions get answered each time. Also there is tradestation group in facebook you can join.

You can just select multiple strategy at a time into one and then edit their inputs as per your requirements or import new EL position sizing from their forum into your platform.
I think Tradestation has not created strategy building wizard like ninja trader because they want people learn and fully utilize power of EL.

In these books there are various Trading Systems with complete codes in Easylanguage, which you can copy and test:

    - The Ultimate Trading Guide-J. Hill-Pruit

    - Trading System that Work - T. Stridsman

    - Building Winning T.S. with Tradestation-J. Hill-Pruit

I have EA Builder it does not offer what you are looking for. It does have value, sometimes I put something in EA Builder and it gives me an idea to try to code it in EasyLanguage.
