    Hi all,

Just a quick question. What is the margin requirement on Interactive Brokers currently if I want to short a strangle on ESX?

    Thanks in advance!

You don't even mention the strikes. All you need to do is load up the strategy and right click "check margin" before submitting the trade. A pop-up window will state the margin.

    Hi Def,

I haven't opened an account yet with IB and the demo account does not have the functionality.

If you can tell me the formula that is used to calculate it, I can work it out.

    Here are the numbers.

    Underlying FTSE 100: 6220.

    Strike of put 5925

    Strike of call 6475

    Expiration 16FEB07

I know the initial margin is GBP 1,820 per contract, but I just want to know if it's going to be GBP 3,640 for the margin if I have two contracts (short 1 put and short 1 call).

    Thanks.

I can take a look tomorrow when the market is open but if I'm not mistaken, that contract would fall under SPAN margining so there is no easy formula. the best I can say is that we charge the exchange minimums.
