Question: how to deal with trolls? Can't anybody do something about them?

Discussion in 'Feedback' started by baro-san, Jun 11, 2015.

  1. I don't disagree that there are problems, though I think you are far to quick to call people trolls for doing exactly what you do. Where we disagree is the means to deal with those problems.

As we will never come to agreement on that, let's just end it here because this is the point at which no further value will be added to this thread by continuing.

And he would have been free to make the exact same post on one of his many threads. And those who were interested in what he had to say would know where to find him.

And nothing will. Anyone who wants to open a thread for whatever reason will be free to do so, in which he can say whatever he pleases as long as it conforms to the TOS.

  3. You assume that he would have wanted to say that in a different arena. That is not a given. Nor is it a given that everyone who reads something and has something to say would want to start a thread to say it. They might think it's convenient to just reply, denied that they might well say never mind.

    Whatever.

If he believed that it was worth saying, he would have. Jack was never shy about initiating threads.

As for those who think that whatever they have to say is not important enough to start a thread to say it, that's self-censorship, not a denial of freedom of expression.

  5. Well, I do hope you are right Db. In Malaysia they don't always tell you that you can't do something, they just make it more difficult to do so, safe in the knowledge that most people will take the path of least resistance and not bother. Not everyone is as bloody minded as whatshisname on The Trouble with Scribbles.

    lol.
He posted one of my charts on that scribbles thread the other day. I wasn't aware I was even a 'scribbler'! He chose one of my better days with lots of profit to mock me which I thought was odd!!
He also came into my journal telling me why 'sla' doesn't work. I had no idea what sla was, though! (since found out it's something to do with Wyckoff)
    I didn't respond. He's completely nuts!

As a trader your job is to wait for the right setups and ignore the noise.

Axe grinders showing up in "your" threads are not going to hurt your points if your points are sound. Let people make their own decisions on what they see or don't see - and if you're worried about them being affected by others then perhaps your ideas aren't as sound as they should be.

People know how to filter out BS from people they know speak BS, so there's really no need to delve into walled garden approaches which coerce points through lack of criticism. Let the ideas speak for themselves.

Too funny. Had he the "grasp," by which I assume you mean "understanding" that you bestow upon him in this particular case, he wouldn't have to act as he is acting. He'd either be able to demonstrate rational grounds for his objections or he'd be asking the questions that would disclose those grounds. Instead, he has fallen back on the common troll refrain of "gimme proof." WTF ever happened to people discussing, questioning, and testing things for themselves?

A favorite (dis)guise of the troll is that of the caped crusader swooping in to save the naïve from the clutches of the damned and the doomed. Forever grateful that I've always been able to think for myself and not require protection from the bitter and beaten down.

With all due respect, I really think it quite a stretch to make this a "Free Speech" issue. If you do want to take it there, then I suggest that it is more an "abuse of free speech" issue. I'd refer everyone back to Baron's analogy of the friends discussing football and the idiot who keeps popping up to say "football sucks!" every few minutes. He has his right to his opinion. He exercised his right to voice it. But do the others not have a right to peaceably assemble and discuss their mutual interest without this idiot adding nothing other mindlessly and hatefully repeating his unthinking mantra?

  10. It is expected that the person making the claim provides the proof. Telling people to go work it out themselves is not the way intelligent discussion is conducted.

Look up Russell's Teapot and The Burden of Proof.
