The issue is psychological I find, some are just too touchy in respect of an opposing point of view and perceive it as being interrogated. Also the word 'bitchy' comes to mind when reading responses to unwelcome questions/statements.
Chat room at first was useful...many posted real-time trades and real-time analysis (including yourself). Yet, we all know what soon happen...Baron was forced to start the Chit Chat and Political & Religion threads to limit the debates in chat but that only worked "a little". Debates that killed the usefulness of the real-time info. I'm glad Baron got rid of chat even though it was useful for awhile. In fact, that's how I heard about Elitetrader.com Joe (Baron's right hand) use to come to IRC and tell folks about this great forum with chat. After I talked to some folks on IRC...I discover they were members of ET but prefer to post real-time trades on IRC than ET. I then went to ET to investigate why chat was a problem. Is Joe still around ??? Is chat too difficult to moderate here ??? I just remember almost every real-time trade posted, the attacks seemed relentless...downright scary and with moderators present.
Demanding "proof" of something or other is a bit more than an opposing point of view, particularly when the "proof" is not forthcoming, and the demand is made over and over and over and over again. That then becomes pestilential.
Wow, was there a chat room here? He needs to bring that back! I'd LOVE to know if anyone here(not on stocktwits, facebook, twitter etc) can actually trade profitable in real time. Make it happen, Mr elitetrader owner!! Would probably put an end to a lot of the bickering too!
It's definitely a quagmire. I've done webinars and chat rooms periodically over the years, but I finally gave it up about a year ago when I realized that nearly all of those who were logged in weren't really there. They were at work or in class or in the car or wherever. And if they weren't looking at what I was looking at, what was the point? They seemed to be relying on the chat log, but it's all hindsight in seconds, much less hours. Even so, I couldn't see that it did much good. They might be impressed by my "ability" to tell where price was going and where it would bounce, but they never learned how to do it themselves (which to a large extent was the impetus for the SLA). And after I spent an extraordinary amount of time explaining the whys and wherefores, their fears of taking the trades finally wrapped that up. (For some reason, the SLA has been the most successful approach I've tried; perhaps Wyckoff's language is just too foreign to young people, particularly if they don't read classical literature) So, no, I'm not a big fan of chat rooms. But it's an option. If Baron elects not to pursue it, I fully understand why.
Yeah, the chat room was popular too...at least it seemed that way when I visited it. Some of those that's been around long enough...they know who use to post live trades in chat...some of them very impressive traders. Its a shame they were spooked away from doing such again. Simply, if that's what you're looking for (traders to post real-time trades)...what's wrong with using those that are currently posting live trades here at Elitetrader.com ??? You can PM your answer to prevent a flame war.
lol, i've been in a chatroom with you when Niko made a room. You never made a realtime call (unsurprisingly) You simply waited for a move of a few points and then talked about how you wondered if anyone took the obvious trade etc, implying that you did (even though you didn't call it) There's a few others who were in the room who can back me up on this. I also remember making a room once and asking you and nodoji to come along to show you skills. You were a no-show. Nodoji, much to my surprise, did show up. Also made a few real time calls. Nothing overly impressive, and they were mainly small scratch trades and the odd small winnner, but it was Something, at least.
