Looking back in this thread, it is simply amazing, not to mention amusing, how the idea of letting OPs moderate their own threads causes so many trolls to just lose their minds. "It's da end o' da woild, I tells ya!" LOL
Perhaps you didn't realise it yet that by posting opposing views or questioning a poster you are a troll yourself. How wonderful, we are all trolls!
That's not what a troll is. Baron already gave a perfect example earlier in this thread, you should look it up. I have no problem entering a thread that's moderated. If my input isn't welcome, so be it. The people squealing the loudest about this change are the very ones who've been trolling other members' threads. That's not a coincidence.
The problem at ET involving trolling scans across multiple threads...a lot of which does not involve claims of profitability or lack of live calls. This has been a problem long before the current troll gang showed up. Lets not forget about the prior gang of trolls in which it eventually escalated to the point where a few members decided to meet somewhere and fight after they learned they lived in the same city area (I believe it was in Chicago) and physically resolve the problem. One ET member didn't show up after "guaranteeing" he would show up but the other ET member did show up...he had a weapon to protect himself just in case he was losing the fight. Lets also not forget the reasons for Baron starting the threads called Chit Chat, Political & Religion many years ago...to give them their own island instead of polluting the trading threads with such discussion that had been used for trolling in the trading threads. Its a problem people...wake up. Each time it reaches a peak...Baron has to take action and try something considering members themselves aren't mature enough or professional enough to stop on their own. Its like a behavior they can't manage and look for reasons to continue such a behavior. A behavior that becomes an eye sore for sponsors...they eventually talk via their money. That eventually has an impact on Baron's pocket book (this place is a source of income for Baron). As for myself, I will no longer visit the TA and Journal threads. Not a problem for me because the things I'm more interested in talking about are other important variables of a trading plan that don't get enough attention (e.g. psychology, stress management, family/career issues). Therefore, if the trolls decide to show up in any threads that I've OP...essentially leaving their island...it will be great if I'm able to use this new tool that will be implemented to prevent those on my ignore list from having the ability to continue their trolling with others in my threads. Thus, I'm looking forward to Baron implementing this new feature involving folks on our ignore list. I just want civilized folks posting useful content and not have to worry about someone showing up the to make off topic conversation as an attack to someone else posting in my threads just because they have a personal grudge against that person...called trolling. This isn't a problem with just Elitetrader.com Its a growing social media problem. At first, I thought was only in places that promoted or allowed complete anonymity. I was grossly wrong and naive. Think about this carefully, in places like Twitter, Facebook where folks often associate their accounts with their real identity, professions and social network...these types of behavior are getting them fired from their job, suspended, loss of career opportunities, loss of business/income that impacts others not involved, harassed in real life, stalked in real life, sued and so on. There's crazy people out there and I see ET members sharing too much personal information about themselves, family, memberships, vacations, hang outs and so on. Trolls need to be careful and those being trolled against needs to be careful. If you're involved in either...limit the personal info being revealed because you can't control actions of others. That's obvious and and well documented online by the news media that when someone pssst off someone else enough via trolling interaction...sometimes someone is crazy enough to take action. Resulting in it getting personal (in person) very fast. Its a problem people...wake up. You can't allowed this to escalate into a bigger problem (ET past history proves such) because Baron is not anonymous and really can't afford to let it escalate. If he didn't care or he was confident it wouldn't have any impact on his wallet, I'm sure this place would turn into a Zoo and someone from Elitetrader.com will be the next news story. If you still don't get it...research cyberbulling and look up the hundreds of cases involving such and their horrific results when it escalates all because someone believes they are "entitle to their own opinion"...misusing its very meaning for the sole purpose to harass.
I am checking this thread of Apex82. Very interesting indeed! I wish (s)he could come back to ET posting again! " Longer Term Trades on Commodities " http://www.elitetrader.com/et/index.php?threads/longer-term-trades-on-commodities.79854/
Again, what's wrong with the ignore button functionality? The problem is that you can't, for whatever reason, press it.
Which doesn't answer the questions I asked. If someone is making claims of one sort or another and he's selling something, he'll be banned. Baron is very good about that, and it's probably the chief advantage of ET. If someone is making claims of one sort or another and isn't selling something, then so what? If he makes claims of a 90% winrate, how nice for him. I couldn't be happier. But that has nothing to do with me. If I'm not happy with my winrate, it's up to me to fix it. "RT" calls aren't going to do me any good as I can't do anything about them by the time they're posted. And if I don't know why they're made in the first place, I can't modify my plan. If I have one. OTOH, if I am happy with my winrate, then somebody else's results are none of my concern. Unless that individual is invading my thread and being a pest and attempting to hijack it, in which case I become interested in whether or not that individual is full of crap. In all cases so far, they have been. Which brings me back to my original question: why do you care so much? If you don't know, then perhaps you should spend some time figuring it out.
It would appear that you can't press it either. If you were to delve into that, you'd answer your own question.
my hell, this is akin to watching the Real Housewives of New York City. keep it going ladies... I have much more espresso to finish! also: ^3985734897534897593784597839573498573498759347597345.333333333
