and how long in advance do you usually know when/where you will enter? (do you also trade with 1 tick stops?)
1 tick stops? How could you trade with 1 tick stops? I set a fairly wide emergencey stop but I exit when I think Im wrong. I will usually have a pretty good idea of where I want in several minutes ahead of time. Occasionally I will enter with a market order without any advance knowledge. All depends.
Why would you want to use market orders? I rarely had a good fill hitting bid/ask... Wouldn't be safer to use limit orders 2-4 cents out of the money on stocks at times where you know it's difficult to get a decent fill? Wonder if you use market orders in particular situations.
\ I dont trade stocks. Simple, when I want in or out RIGHT NOW, I use a market order. Good example yesterday around 2. When things are slow I will get in and out with a limit order. There are many different situations every day and many types of orders out there, why limit yourself to just one of them.
Yep, true enough. I like all kinds of orders too, but MO simply are just not of my liking. Maybe, as you say, with stock is better to avoid MO while they can work well with commodities and other markets. And obviously when you need to get in or out fast.
i just thought this was the deal here - since makosgu told in an older thread that his biggest loss is 1 tick + commission. and this brought up the question for me if he enters with market- or limit order. unfortunately i still got no answer in that thread. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showt...7084&highlight=tick+AND+commission#post737084
WTF? Know when/where you will enter??? You enter when you know where you are at the present moment; this arrives as "NOW"... MAK!
