My observations for the day looking only at PRV. Today's range was large so much of the day was comfortable in terms of direction and side to be on. Camtasia made me an 88 meg file which is great for lookback 1. 09:35 bar 02 takes out previous bar to upside on fast pace - enter long 2. 10:05 bar 08 takes out previous bar to downside on fast pace - enter short 3. 11:05 bar 20 takes out previous bar to upside on fast pace - reverse long 4. 12:30 bar 37 takes out previous bar to downside on fast pace - reverse short 5. 12:55 bar 42 takes out previous bar to upside on fast pace - reverse long 6. 13:40 bar 51 takes out previous bar to downside on fast pace - reverse short 7. 13:55 bar 54 takes out previous bar to upside on fast pace - reverse long 8. 14:10 bar 57 takes out previous bar to downside on fast pace - reverse short 9. 14:45 bar 64 takes out previous bar to upside on fast pace - reverse long 10. 15:25 bar 72 takes out previous bar to downside on fast pace - reverse short 11. 15:30 bar 73 takes out previous bar to upside on fast pace - reverse long exit 15:45 Questions that come to mind are 1. When looking at previous bar's PRV - I should really be looking at same point in time of previous bar e.g. if I get fast pace at 2 mins into a bar - am I looking to see if 2 mins into previous bar pace was fast or the end vol of previous bar. If former I need to add more detail to the log to know this. If this is the case, does it mean a fast pace up bar cannot be followed by a fast paced down bar without going thru DU. 2. What additional filter can I add to avoid excess reversals. Maybe this is the washing approach i.e. if the bar does not move as I expect it soon after entry then exit and sideline. any additional observations/suggestions appreciated. IRL
My apologies to the other posters in this thread, for what may seem to be an off topic post. Jack - Are you familiar with Watts Humphrey, and his writings on CMM - in particular PSP ("A Discipline for Software Engineering"?) I ask because I'm seeing a tenuous link between the topics and methodologies he discusses, and iterative refinement of the trading "process." If so, would you comment on any relationships you perceive between the two? TIA Anthony
Jack often mentions 20-40 actions a day so a lot of reversals are common, I guess. Curious how many actions a day Mak is averaging.
Depends which fractal I'm on. On the 5, it is seldom less than 40 (ie. once every other bar). I SCT a whole myriad of different ways as a means to find a balance between what's optimum and what's hyper. Additionally, when the cats are away, that's when I play. Otherwise banging out a few points in the first 45M on a descent size lot is plenty for the day... In any event, I am in the midst of fine tuning PRV to which fractal to be on. For example, when things are EXTREME, the 5M fractal is a nice place to hang out. When things are MEDIUM to SLOW, 15M to 20M is a nice place to hang out. VDU, I may go out to as far as the 45M to 60M. I know that Jack mentioned that this type of fractal shifting comes with experience. For me, I just recognize it as slow money in the low volume arena so you have to move out to a longer time frame to just wait it out. At night, I dabble with FOREX so as to extend my knowledge. We can chat more about this later though... For the moment, I am just watching to see who is where and how things are going with the group here.... FWIW, how many IB folks are around? I've done Anthony the favor and gotten the IB combined PRV STR.NEUT.SQU ready to ship out to you folks. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get an IQFEED version so if there are die hard IQFEED folks, speak up now please... Kind Regards, MAK
Mak, You are far too kind. Unfortunately for me, I'm the slow dog of the pack - so I really appreciate you taking the time and effort to pull that together. I haven't posted much recently because I'm still working on some of the str/squ things - just putting in screen time. Trying to get 1. Knowing when and how to make calibrations. You mentioned this previously, so I'm working off that. 2. Watching volume drive str/squ. Best Regards Anthony
Mak, IB here - was considering splurging on IQfeed but if the job can be done with IB all the better. Got a serious lag yesterday with QT using IB feed but I can't blame IB as the TWS was perfectly in synch with Tradesation. A restart of QT fixed the problem. IRL
