Question About Using Tradestation

Discussion in 'Retail Brokers' started by torontoman, Jan 20, 2008.

  1. As I am getting Tradestation, I don't know whether to add GIG or just get a new computer. I can buy 4 gig of Ram. I presently have 1 gig. Tradestation says that 1 gig of RAM is fine, but EVERYONE I spoke to said you need at least 4 gig.

    I have a Dell Dimension 9150 (2 years old)

    Windows XP Professional

    I have Intel Pentium D 820 (2 8 GHZ) w/ dual core technology.

    1 GB Secure digital card

    Monitor 1280X1024 resolution

Video card 256 mb ATI hyper memory PCI-Express X16

Do you think that I should get a new computer or just add RAM.

    Thank you,

Add RAM. Tradestation needs a minimum of 2 mg RAM. I run it on 2 year old Dell, similar specs with two mgs and it runs fine. I have found that the latest version (still listed as beta but you can download it off their site) 1554 runs cleaner and faster then version 1419.

I have been avoiding Build 8.3 like the plague, stick with 8.1 for a few more months. 8.1 does not hog memory, and will run on 512 or a G no problem, 8.3 needs 2 Gigs of RAM or more!

    surdo is spot on.

Stick with 8.2 build 3894 or less.

8.3 was not properly beta tested and it eats Ram.

In answer to your question 2 gigs of ram minimum is usually more than adequate.

Also remember depending on your operating system > 2 gigs is not maximized.
