Being a Canadian I am familiar with the story, and I can tell you how it ended, but everyone else can make their own conclusions. Facts... The two main culprits (If you exclude the CEO's wife), were fraudsters who got together originally to create a trading scam. This is not theory, but a fact and after the OSC (Ontario Securities Commission) did an extensive investigation. Not to mention, one of them had an EXTENSIVE history of fraud and jailtime previously for this sort of thing. In the end, Gerald's wife took 10 million and kept it to herself IIRC. Now THAT is a real kick in the face to any client victim. She didn't even return the stolen money! That's the Canadian legal system for you... But what do you expect, we even let females who are murders and rapists like Karla Halmoka go around free because.... reasons.
Interestingly, this was left out of the documentary: "In October 2019, after the bankruptcy trustee had revealed the extent of the fraud and the reality Gerry had mixed Quadriga’s assets with his personal accounts to fund his and Jennifer’s lifestyle, she returned to the trustee $12 million in assets she’d previously assumed were legitimately hers. After that, Jennifer ended up living in her father’s attic, teaching English online to Chinese children in the middle of the night to make ends meet and beginning to rebuild her life. (She will graduate from Mount Saint Vincent University with her education degree later this spring.) She has not yet disappeared to rendezvous with Gerry in that happy-ever-after, extradition-free backwater." https://www.halifaxexaminer.ca/featured/whos-really-to-blame-for-the-quadrigacx-scandal/ Interview with the wife: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/quadriga-widow-jennifer-roberston-gerald-cotten-1.6318955
