There is. Not everyone is as deep into this stuff as us. Republicans are going to hate anything Biden does but many democrats wanted Griner home and won’t compute the nuances. What I find interesting about this whole situation is the mythology that has grown around Wheeling. Not that we shouldn’t try to bring him home but the guy has some serious issues.
By trading an arms dealer who was caught in a sting where he was to sell missles to people to shoot down U.S. airplanes? He needs to go free to get Griner out?
All due respect there Ayn.... you obviously don't know many Marines. For real. Edit: And by you even saying that.... is disrespectful af. For real. The second time.
The case was sussy, even the sentencing judge said as much. No, I don't believe it's a fair trade for someone who's been responsible for so much death, just saying the positive aspect of the exchange requires no spin....it's there clear as day. FWIW: Putin kept upping the punishment/leverage for Griner so at some point she'd likely be in worse shape than a lengthy prison sentence in a hard labor camp imo. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2012/4/6/russian-arms-dealer-gets-25-years-in-prison
I.dont see her getting out as something positive to report on or discuss when it came at the expense of releasing Viktor... if it came down to her staying in prison and Viktor also staying or both going free...most americans would keep.viktor in prison...especially when you see the sting he was caught in.
There are a lot of countries that have very strict drug laws. If you bring illegal drugs into them, you run the risk of going to prison for a long, long time. It doesn't matter if they were legal in your home country or if it was an accident. You have to understand the laws of every country you step foot into. Brittney Griner was not wrongfully imprisoned. She pleaded guilty to possessing and smuggling drugs into Russia. The sentencing was harsh, but she confessed to committing the crimes she was imprisoned for. The individual we traded for her has been convicted of conspiring to kill Americans and providing arms to terrorist organizations. He's responsible for hundreds if not thousands of deaths. There's no way that I would've traded him for any US citizen that committed the crimes they were convicted of, regardless of who they were.
Weapons US provides to Ukrains already floats around the world, killing people now outside ofUkraine and will without any doubt kill numerous american citizens in the coming years and you concerned about an arms dealer who probably hasn't done 0.1% of what US government does now?
