There's nothing in it for a man to get married. It happens more often than you think: A man comes home to see his wife riding his best friend like a pony, right in the middle of the living room. She looks him in the eye and says "I'm going to divorce you and take you for everything you've got." And then she does so.
"What you need is a maid, a hooker and a shrink" thats exactly it... a maid, GFs and a good shrink. thats my life, although after 7-8 years in therapy i go only infrequently to see teh shrink... but thats exactly it... the cleaning is $100/month, the shrink $125/hr and the GFs are low maintenance or they are gone. i have two children & a comfortable lifestyle; i dont need nagging, drama, etc. many people need to be comfortable with themselves - how many guys get divorced and are remarried w/in a year or two? thats nuts.
Funny you should mention that ... I've been offered sex by my best friend's girlfriends so often it ain't even funny. And when I would tell'me about it they would go talk to her and then come back to me and defend her! ... can we hear anything from the "aye" camp, LOL.
As a guy who has been married for 16 years, the only way I would ever get married again is if WE were both totally broke or WE wanted to have kids. Since WE were both amply qualified for this we got married. If I didn't want kids or had some cash, there is know way I would ever get married. Good luck though.
Those who criticized the guy for wanting a prenup are full of it. There is very little of true love out there. Just imagine what percentage of people divorce "the one". It is not an unreasonable thing to suggest that women are frequently attracted to cash. And while some would marry a 90 year old for cash others would simply gravitate towards it. If you have the cash, it is wise to protect it. Otherwise you get taken for a ride like McCartney.
Remember the words of that fine modern day philosopher Paris Hilton. " Every woman should have four pets. A mink in her closet. A jaguar in her garage. A tiger in her bed. And a jackass to pay for it all."
Thats just it. There is a type of woman you marry and have kids with and there is a type of woman you sleep with. As guys we naturally though want to bag that hot piece of ass as a wife to have pretty kids with, thats a huge mistake. The best strategy to have kids and not die alone is to marry someone who you are better looking than and who doesn't have much ambition in life. I eventually want my wifes friends to wonder how she got me and my friends to think I could have done better...in that situation your wife has no better options than you and you get a stable environment for your kids. If you want to marry the hot piece of ass lawyer well its just a matter of time before she meets someone better than you.
To you guys that say don't get married - if every guy listened to you the human population would implode. And it would be a dog-eat-dog world (more so than it already is). Marriage is a contract so you just have to make sure you enter it in a way that protects your ASSets. I have a few questions: 1 If I marry a non US citizen then is the prenup still valid? 2 How is vagimony and child support calculated? Based on the minimum needs of the ex-wife and children? Or based on the earnings of the man? 3 Lets say before marriage a guy is worth 500k and 10 years later at divorce he is worth over 10 million. Then is it fair to limit the ex wife's vagimony and her share of asset distribution to 500k? Consider she was a homemaker during the 10 years of marriage.
when you negotiate any partnership agreement, you always include a dissolution clause. "prenup" is a misnomer - its a detailed matrimonial contract... what i have been TRYING to get across to the younger guys here (assumption) is that the contraction obligations EXIST whether you realize it or not. better to spell out the details, otherwise the court will do it, and your negotiating position may be seriously compromised... and possibly, your life ruined in the process.
Child support calcs are different in every state. They are usually some very complicated formula which can usually be simplified with simple algebra down to 25% of your income (for a single child) with some sort of VERY high cap on max paid. It has nothing to do with the needs of the child or woman. Money earned during the time of the marriage is usually considered earned by both parties regardless of what she does. The court considers her service during marriage as contributing to your ability to make the money. In addition, without a prenup, that initial 500k is about the only thing that can be protected. All of this is different on a state by state basis, and all of it is up to the judges discretion to some degree. Alimony is too complicated a subject to even try to build any kind of generalized statements on it considering the laws in each state swing so widely from each other.
