  3. Because this sounds like the show Matlock? Name recognition is known to be an important factor for elderly minds in an election, ask any incumbent. It already is the land of plenty, plenty of fools.

Just last week I watched a family man reverse onto his dog he tied to his hitch at my usual diner. I voted for Trump and so did he. His bloodied Trump 2020 bumper is probably worth money now.

Hey I moved to the good schools. So far it was a good choice for my kids.

However, my top option would be to live with an ocean view in Solana Beach so I could also be near Lomas Santa FE Country club and the beach.

I lived in Solana Beach (without an ocean view) I had a lot of liberal neighbors. I got along fine. I don't talk politics in real life very often.

Where I live now I don't need to talk politics as most of the people I know are to the right of me. The lefties i know are Personal Injury lawyers teachers or doctors. I have seen the doctors I know go left as Obamacare goes along. (Their incomes have gone up dramatically.) I would note that it seems both the doctors and lawyers are still anti tax so there are never any real conflicts. I have learned not to engage with teachers on politics.... ever.

Let's work toward the day where every kid in America has good nutrition and the opportunity to go to a great school with small class sizes, or a great alternative. What I want to see is no difference between the schools in the most affluent areas of a town, or the country, and the least affluent. And the only way to do that is with public money. But what a great investment of our tax dollars that would be! And it has to start by age three at the latest. We could do this. All it would take is building a few less F-35s each year. It's just a matter of getting our priorities in the right order.

But it will also take intellectual honesty and recognition that everyone is not the same, and what's best for one person is not necessarily best for another.

To a large extent I don't think its the schools or the budget... its the parents. CA has been throwing money at the system and its not getting better.

CA spends a fortune on schools. If the parents don't value education who is going to make the kid do the work? Only a truly exceptional human being as a teacher can overcome parents who don't care.

(I pick people brains because people love talking to people about what they know and I love knowledge. Plus people tend to like you when you listen and I no good at small talk.)
So I talk to teachers every time I see them and I have kids ranging from college to 3rd grade. I have been in the raising the kids and talking to teachers game for a long time.

Many if not all Teachers in San Diego today believe that the younger kids do well in school because their parents talk to them a lot. When I first heard them saying that I was surprised. But they all seem to believe it. Since then I have been observing my kids friends over the years interacting with the parents. I now believe those teachers have a profound understanding. Parents who talk to their kids.... it works on so many levels.

What more do kids really want? What will teach them how to think? What will keep them motivated? What will give them enthusiasm for science or math or music or sports?

You want to help kids do well in school... Teach the parents to good parents and set good examples. We need to expect more as a society. We need to revamp our social safety nets. We need to eliminate benefit cliffs and we need to value both parents contributing to childrens upbringing. Our society is current failing many of our children ... and oddly many of us celebrate the way our society is going.

Like this one. The nutrition part of that should be carved out as its own issue. It costs next to nothing to feed kids a hot breakfast and it makes a huge difference in their performance. Feed kids in primary school when they show up in the morning.
