I expect a new smurf alias to join this thread at some point and set the OP straight about the pitfalls of TA.
The question should be not whether TA works or not, but rather the abilities (or disabilities) of the TA user.
Please understand that I am not in the camp that says TA/PA is worthless ... far from it. But how can you provide a single example and suggest that proves anything works. Only a moron can can actually believe that is proof. Please understand I am choosing the word moron carefully. Posting your post is moronic behavior and can only be done by a moron. Got it?
He provided a "text book example of a breakout" as proof breakouts work, now he did not say breakouts work 100% of the time hey he did not even go into how often they work, its just the base of a topic, he could have named it is this proof breakouts work? It could have evolved into the most informative breakout thread on the web! Now I understand not everyone's parents taught them how to communicate with respect beyond that of an ape but the question here is not whether the OP is a moron, its whether break outs work enough of the time to make them viable. Anyone have any studies?
This is how he titled his post: Proof that technicals/ charts work-- SINA It is no diffferent than if I posted: Proof divining rods work: Man finds water in just 20 minutes with one. It is a single data point. It is not proof of anything. To claim it is is so damn moronic a nine year old should know better. If you are using the word proof you probably should prove something or at the VERY least have something that strongly supports your premise. C'mon ... one data point tendered as proof?
Interesting excerpt I stumbled across: "Rejecting technical analysis as a method for investing, (John) Templeton says, "You must be a fundamentalist to be really successful in the market."
I'm with Swan Noir on the point he's making. OP claims: "Proof that technicals/ charts work-- SINA" and "This is a text book example of a breakout". I could display hundreds of chart examples of MA Crossovers and profitable trades, yet I know (for me at least) MACD's don't work enough to be viable, in actual fact, they lose more than gain.
