Doubter sounds like a reborn thunder. For you to say that I cannot, or one cannot know the truth in their heart is your opinion. Again, that is your truth. I know differently. Whoever first labeled it "a priori" understood that some things are known to be true without having proof thereof. Apparently you do not subscribe to that thought. I do. You cannot know THE truth inandlong however much you protest it. You can only know A truth (your truth) What upsets people about Christian absolutism is the absolutism. You are distorting the meaning of the word Truth to fit your position or argument. The recognized meaning of Truth (apparently by all but the religious): A fact that has been verified. You keep referring to the word priori. This has become to be understood as something understandable, a consequence of deduction. It is not relative to Truth. You can badly deduce from misunderstanding ! You have verified your truth for yourself, yet it does not stand up to verification by others. It is therefore patently not THE truth as much as you would like it to be. Just standing logic on it's head is meaningless to forwarding knowledge.
you know, if you wanted me to, i could... well, i couldn't actually PROVE it, but i could certainly offer rational evidence that suggests that, yes, i had in fact loved.
I would like to point out that you can't even know "A truth". In fact there is only one thing that anyone knows. Do you know what that fact is?
Mattj... In response to your question about the Doubter handle. It is a very neaningful handle because by nature I have been a doubter. I still question nearly everything(helps in fading the market, and I love the downsides.). Another reason is that the biblical Thomas was a doubter and we share the same name. In the market I tend to doubt the projected earnings but if a company confesses problems I think they could be coming closer to the truth. I am now a Christian but reluctantly and doubtfully made the journey to this point. I was hard to come around but now I doubt I'll leave.
stu, I'm not sure where we disagree about truth. What I know to be true is my truth. I said that clearly in one of my earlier posts, and you are saying the same now. Many people, ie., Christians, share a belief in the same truth that I believe. For me, Jesus is the Truth. I have to laugh because I am sure what frustrates Christians about non-Christian absolutism is the absolutism. That is why I say, and you agree, but daniel doesn't, that what is the truth to me is not necessarily the truth to another. Daniel wants there to be one and only one truth, and there is, but in practice, your truth, his truth, my truth, are all truths to each of us respectively. "You have verified your truth for yourself, yet it does not stand up to verification by others." There are plenty of others who would verify that the truth I have verified for myself is the same truth they have verified for themselves. That is an undeniable fact. As such, my truth, while not verifiable by all others, is verifiable by others. Step in to any church where the Word of the Lord is preached, and you will find all the "others" you need. Believe it or not, there are some people who still don't believe that we have landed men on the moon. The truth that we have done so is not verifiable. What... moonrocks... yeah right. Pictures of astronauts on the moon, heck TV can make it look like people fly. Personal accounts... all a government conspiracy. I can offer a reason why anything to do with the space program is a hoax. And support it with previously documented evidence. It gets back to those who need to have the truth of the living God verified by reasoning and those, like me, who don't. Edit: But... I have enjoyed the discussion, and reading the views of others is always interesting. My eyes feel like two hardboiled eggs at the end of the day from staring at these CRT's. I gotta get some flat panels. I will bow out of the discussion. Stu I am not trying to "get the last word" by bowing out now, I don't think that is your interest either. Hey it dawns on me just now, did you and I exchange PM's about Excel a little while ago? The Qlink thing? Was that you? Okay that was funny. Good trading guys. LOL Still no religious Democrat losers.
