  1. I don't know about this one dude. I think you might change your opinion if you spent a little more time with the sickos here in San Francisco.

BTW: Has anyone else noticed that we've been relegated to Chit Chat?

That hurts my cold unfeeling unknowledgeable heart.

How incredibly disheartening it is to see how insistent some people are to display their belief or lack there of in God.

I frankly couldn’t care less what a bunch of faceless people on a message board think about the subject. There isn’t a chance in hell that anything any of you could say would “convert” me to whatever your point of view may be.

The topic is inappropriate at best. On one side we have those who cannot resist flaunting their superior intellect for having figured out that there is no God. On the other, we have those who deem it necessary to show how holy they are, and point out what good friends they are with the Man.

None of this crap proves anything. Nor does it add to the purpose that this board serves. It’s bullshit – no matter the viewpoint advanced.

  3. Tampa, I'm surprised.

That doesn't sound like the good loving (all knowing) heart of a Christian?

  4. how disheartening - not to mention tiring - it is to hear a has-been like you chime in with your apathetic views on everything.

(and yep - i'm well aware a similar accusation could be levelled at me :) i just couldn't resist taking a dig at ole tampax.)

  5. I don't claim to speak for all Christianity. I speak for myself.

I have nothing to defend. I know what is true for me, and it is very, very similar to the same truth others know for themselves. There is nothing to defend. There is nothing to prove.

For you to say that I cannot, or one cannot know the truth in their heart is your opinion. Again, that is your truth. I know differently. Whoever first labelled it "a priori" understood that some things are known to be true without having proof thereof. Apparently you do not subscribe to that thought. I do.

If you have never known something is true in your heart then that is for you to say about you. But I have. And as I said before, I bet most if not all Christians have. Because that is where the Truth of the Lord is. Not the mind. Not in man's reasoning. So please, I know the experience of knowing truth in my heart. You don't. For you to say it isn't so is the same as saying anything you cannot do, no one else can do either.

..."...no matter how rationally compelling i can make an argument, i'm yet to find one christian emotionally mature enough to acknowledge it, and thus abandon, or at least seriously doubt, their faith."

Bingo! You have stated well the weakness of reasoning when confronted with the power of Faith and the Holy Spirit. Man's reasoning cannot overpower true Faith or the power of the Holy Spirit. Where is the weakness daniel... in the hearts of any Christian you have failed to influence... or in what you consider to be a rationally compelling argument? The weakness is in your argument.

All Christians choose to believe. We are free to believe or not. We have heard the arguments from all sides and are convinced to believe the Word of God over the word of man. Many of us, like myself, have proven ourselves in the arenas of critical thinking and emotional stability through our professonal pursuits and accomplishments. It is a far stretch to presume emotional immaturity because you, daniel, are unable to convince a Christian to adandon or question his Faith.

    Geesh man, talk about pompous.

  10. do you know why i say that inandlong? because it's the ARGUMENT that does the convincing. not ME.

i am totally convinced that my argument against christianity - in its entirety - presents a compelling REASON not to believe the claims of christianity. it's not a conclusive argument, but it is certainly an argument as to 'best explanation', and it's yet to be refuted.

practically all christians i've discussed it with retreat into their cozy little world of "i know in my hear" gibberish; or to the hokey rationalisations the apologists provide them with. okay fine. like you said, i can't REASON against that.

i can't be bothered arguing with people that won't even concede me the possibility of their being wrong. (and, as you say, you're not interested in reasoning, so it would obviously be futile on my part.)

i'll just have to leave you with "i know my heart, AND, more importantly, in my brain, that Christianity is false".
