Problems with TD Ameritrade

  1. About a month ago thinkorswim had issues for a couple days but the phone app And web platform was working as backup. I would say this only happens infrequently and tos will be at Schwab as well as they merge in 2021.

I use US TD Ameritrade and my non American wife uses non US TD Ameritrade and we live abroad. The US and non US platforms are different, with different requirements. I think TD Ameritrade is the easiest for a beginner, with intuitive charts and trading information. I haven't experienced technical issues, but found some aspects a bit frustrating. For example, it's purposefully difficult to pick the lots to sell (not FIFO method) from their TOS pc version but quite easy from their android phone app. Yet, it only works for US accounts and platform. Also, they promote 24h trading but they don't. They're 8 am to 8 pm only.
You may have legal problems trading on the US platform if you don't have a US permanent address, and a foreign IP address will let them know you're trading from abroad.

chwab anticipates the integration of the three tech-driven products to take between 18 to 36 months after completing the acquisition, which is expected in the second half of the year. Once the deal closes, where and how clients of the two firms access their accounts, their pricing and who they contact for service or advice will remain unchanged until the account conversion process begins, according to the release.

“There’s going to be a long process of integrating those two firms,” Schweiss said in a recent interview. “Schwab acquired 12 million customer accounts.”
Along with those new accounts, Schwab also is bringing on board some of TD Ameritrade’s technology applications, so “there’s going to be a long period, a couple years, of integration work.”
