  2. i have a better idea. last weekend i carried 60 sheets of 4 foot by 12 foot drywall down the stairs into my basement by myself. this weekend i will be hanging that drywall on an 8 foot ceiling by myself. come on over and we will see how long you last. and i probably have 30 years on you.
people that say they only eat once a day probably have never done any strenuous work in their life.

    It's not once a day. It's a window of 8 hours.

Meet Greg Plitt. His style of eating is similar.

Way to knock down a method before even learning about it or trying.

  6. fads and gimmics are nice for selling books but after all these years i know that in order to do work the body needs fuel. food is its fuel. people that dont eat breakfast are worthless on a construction site in my experience.
worse. people that dont eat breakfast are generally heavier than people that do because starving yourself leads to snacking junk food.

Researchers have found evidence that Mom was right: breakfast may really be the most important meal of all. A new study reports that the more often adolescents eat breakfast, the less likely they are to be overweight. The researchers examined the eating and exercise habits of 1,007 boys and 1,215 girls, with an average age of 15 at the start of the five-year study — a racially and economically diverse sample from public schools in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

The authors found a direct relationship between eating breakfast and body mass index; the more often an adolescent had breakfast, the lower the B.M.I. And whether they looked at the data at a given point or analyzed changes over time, that relationship persisted.

Why eating breakfast should lead to fewer unwanted pounds is unclear, but the study found that breakfast eaters consumed greater amounts of carbohydrates and fiber, got fewer calories from fat and exercised more. Consumption of fiber-rich foods may improve glucose and insulin levels, making people feel satisfied and less likely to eat more later in the day.

  7. There are a lot of construction workers who don't eat breakfast. Come break @ 10 they'll have a burrito or something. I haven't noticed breakfast to be the deciding factor in a good worker or not. Attitude is much more of a factor in worker performance than diet, IMO.

    Sounding the sugar alarms

Lustig says that sweets in processed food — whether it's high-fructose corn syrup in a soda or cane sugar in a candy bar — are the leading cause of metabolic syndrome, a dangerous collection of complications that includes high blood sugar, high blood pressure and decreased sensitivity to insulin. By some estimates, the syndrome more than doubles the risk of heart attack or stroke. And that's bad news, because about 1 in 4 U.S. adults — including many sugar junkies who look lean and fit — already have the syndrome. "Everyone needs to be aware of the danger," he says.

How to cut back? Instead of reading labels and counting grams, Lustig urges people to simply choose more foods that don't have nutrition labels at all. "I'm not suggesting that we take the sugar out of processed food. I'm suggesting that we eat real food."

Thanks for posting. And along those lines...

Dr. Sanjay Gupta: This idea that sugar increases this particularly bad LDL, the small dense particles that are associated with heart disease. Do most doctors-- do they know this?

Dr. Robert Lustig: No, they do not know this. This is new.

And it turns out, sugar has become a major focus in cancer research too.

  10. its the fiber. natural forms of sugar,ie fruits, eaten along with the fiber they were produced with is not harmful.
at out house we gave up sugar years ago. you will not find any sugar, salt, white flower, soda, red or processed meats in my kitchen.
humans need lots of fiber. that is something you dont get enough of on the hi fat diets.
