If you were to take the time to understand the process, you'd know that it entails studying old charts in order to form hypotheses to be tested both backwards and forwards eventually working toward simtrading and real-time trading. Some people pick it up quickly; some not so quickly. Since he is at least trying to understand behavioral dynamics rather than jump in like most and trade via Guess And Hope, I suggest you leave him alone and let him do it.
Since you have no idea what the work is, you have no way of knowing whether it is complete or not, much less whether or not it provides an "edge". In any case, you're not lajax' mother.

Future would-be pests can always look at the chart I posted to my journal this morning before the open showing the range I was going to be working today. At 1055, price reversed off the bottom of this range and rose 30pts before making a U-turn and dropping 28. Not a bad day.
