Trudeau was history before Trump even got elected. You can obsess all you want about all of this political bs the negatives from tariffs will hit you not me. Canada will be fine. You seem to confuse short term chaos with the long term. Interestingly, Trump has the same problem. You can delude yourself all you want that tariffs on Cdn heavy oil, metals, and auto parts don't impact your country. Freeland already stared down Trump term one and he had to relent. This is why he hates her. The Conservatives already had a complete meltdown years ago that is the gold standard in govts falling apart. They dropped to two seats from hundreds in the election. So don't think something earth shattering is occurring Canada didn't fall apart because we changed governments.
The problem with tariffs is that it is a two way street. It only works if you have leverage because you can strike a good deal with the other party. If you impose it at your whim like Justin Trudeau and Emmanuel Macron, you get tariffs imposed on your best earning industries and your economy gets destroyed needlessly. Ask Macron about Chinese sanctions on French Cognac, luxury items from Italy, pork from Spain. China now buying its pork from Russia as examples. The same with Joe Biden's tariffs and sanctions on China. China banned the export of rare earths to the US and ordered that no US chips be used in manufacturing. President Donald Trump will impose tariffs on Canada and Europe because it is long overdue. So called allies cannot just impose tariffs on US products and expect the US to just take it. You will get retaliatory tariffs in turn which will hurt Canadian companies in the process.
I'm not sure what your problem is...countermeasures and Trudeau??? First, I didn't vote for Trudeau nor have I ever talked about "countermeasures by Trudeau". The only person I've talked about fighting fire with fire was Pierre Poilievre. You do know he's a conservative...right??? Simply, Poilievre is not Prime Minister and Trump is not President. Therefore, get back to me when both are leading their countries instead of creating some illusion in your head about what I've talked about with you. By the way, the last time I mentioned to you the name Trudeau was about vaccine mandates against Truckers who wanted to come to Canada without being vaccinated (without a medical exemption or religious exemption). Also, I think I had a discussion with you or someone else about one of the U.S. most famous energy blackout in New York 2003, and it did not involve any counter-measures. It was an accidental blackout that cost the U.S. 6 to 14 billion dollars and impacted 50 million Americans... Trudeau, Polilievre, and Trump were not in politics (not leaders of their country) back in 2003. Simply, are you on drugs or you're mixed up in your head about vaccine mandates and tariffs ??? The latter you're not able to admit why Canada's performance greatly exceeded the United States against Covid. Yes, I was confident in Canada's performance against Covid and just as confident in Canada's performance in the next Pandemic. @echopulse By the way, how's Thailand and how long you've been living there or is that another lie by you ??? Too many foreigners at this forum pretending to be Americans Reminder - Get back with me about Poilievre comments when (if) he wins the next Canada election for Prime Minister. wrbtrader
You should check on how statins are starting to be linked to dementia and Alzheimers (because of the brain's need for cholesterol). Remember when we were told to avoid eggs and meat because it was bad? I do.
Trump, Elon has spoken. The stop-gap spending bill is outrageous. Government must be shut down until at least next month. You must back your man, and back his (and Ramiswami's) plan to cut $2 trillion from government spending!
It is killed before it goes to a vote. “YES,” Musk commented on an X post from a user who wrote, “Just close down the govt until January 20th. Defund everything. We will be fine for 33 days.” In his own post, Musk wrote, “No bills should be passed [by] Congress until Jan 20, when @realDonaldTrump takes office. None. Zero.” (Upon Trump’s inauguration, Republican majorities will control both chambers of Congress.) Elsewhere, Musk reshared a meme of himself hacking at the bill with a sword, captioned “KILL THE BILL.” In yet another post, he wrote: “Any member of the House or Senate who votes for this outrageous spending bill deserves to be voted out in 2 years!” Musk personally thanked a number of GOP representatives who announced via X that they were voting “no” on the bill, including Reps. Barry Moore, Anna Paulina Luna, Wesley Hunt, Eli Crane, Randy Weber, Michael Cloud, Jeff Van Drew, Warren Davidson, Keith Self, Kevin Kiley and Andy Ogles, many of whom blasted it as an “omnibus” package of excessive spending and Democratic giveaways. https://www.rollingstone.com/politi...-government-funding-deal-shutdown-1235211000/ Shutdowns disrupt government services and programs; they close national parks and institutions. They reduce government revenue because fees are lost while at least some furloughed employees receive back pay. They reduce economic growth... Congress and their staff should not be allowed to receive back pay. It should be lost...never to be recovered. I would hate to be a government worker (2.95 million employees), especially if the name is Speaker Mike Johnson. Fortunately, for us traders, life continues as normal. wrbtrader
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cd0e7j94732o The public battle sets up an early test of Musk and Ramaswamy’s political might as they look to slash government spending, including at least US$2 trillion in federal programs, a figure experts have called unrealistic. https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/elon-m...n-early-test-of-his-political-might-1.7151393 wrbtrader
Please, Trump, stick to your guns and demand the two year debt ceiling provision or no deal (you are the king of deal making). Shut down the government "on Joe Biden's watch" as you said, the public always blames democrats for these shutdowns! Encourage Leon to stand firm, too, since he correctly pointed out that Americans will need to endure a few years of economic hardship in order to make things better later. (Not that a cessation of government spending would have any effect on the economy, ofc.)
Uh oh, looking like the tariffs are not going to happen... Damn, and this after hearing that cutting housing and food prices by 50% is "hard, real hard". Edit: oh, and the exception for H1Bs on the immigration promise...
