Actually, corporate management enriching themselves at the expense of shareholders is capitalism & free market. If you don't like it, pull your money out. Noone is stopping you. The government even nowdays stays out of those matters unless there is blatant fraud (and even then it often stays out). That is about as free market as you can get when it comes to the ideological definition. Noone forces you to invest with leeching pension funds, noone forces you to deal with Wall Street.
And why would you conveniently ignore the "Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000" that allowed CDS to "trade" unregulated and support the likes of AIG? Is it because the legislation was spearheaded by one of your highly cherished Republicans, Phil Gramm?
I bought another house in 2004. I wanted to pay cash. The agent said that she had never heard of anyone paying cash for a house and wanted me to take out a loan. I was 70 at the time and they wanted to give me a no money down loan for 40 years. I didn't even have to make the principal. Just interest. I swear. I paid cash. Looking back, it was probably about getting kickbacks from the lender and nothing to do with affirmative action. Maybe because of my age it might have been about infirmed-ative action
