    Argo Layer in Google Earth

Monitor the Argo network in real-time using Google Earth software (GE). This Argo layer for Google Earth shows the positions of all active and inactive floats, features stories about a select number of floats and shows where floats will be deployed. Using a special web interface, it is possible to plot the trajectories for a certain region and time range. To begin exploring this resource, follow the directions below :

Download and install Google Earth at http://earth.google.com
    Launch the application
Click on the following link: http://argo.jcommops.org/argo.kml

This will add a group of layers named "Argo" in your "Temporary Places" (see left frame). This group of layers includes active and inactive floats, deployment plans, and float stories.

Move up this group of layers (picking the top level one) to your "Preferred places". Hence each time you launch GE, your Argo layers will be available and up to date.

You can right click on the root layer and click "Refresh" to update it at any time (but it is not necessary as it should be automatic)
You can filter the Argo layers for your country or your program. To do so right, click on the root layer, select "Properties". You will see the Network Link used to create the layers : http://www.jcommops.org/jcommops-kml/WebObjects/jcommops-kml.woa/wa/createKml?masterProg=Argo

Add the following at the end of the URL, replacing %COUNTRY% or %PROGRAM% as appropriate:

    &country=%COUNTRY%

    or

    &program=%PROGRAM%

You can do a spatial/temporal query on the GDAC database to display observations or float trajectories

    http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/phod/argo/index.php

    Introduction

Argo is an international program that calls for the deployment of 3,000 free drifting profiling floats, distributed over the global oceans, which will measure the temperature and salinity in the upper 2,000 m of the ocean providing 100,000 T/S profiles and reference velocity measurements per year.

This allows continuous monitoring of the state of the ocean, with all data being made publicly available within hours after collection, for scientific use and assimilation into weather forecasting and climate prediction models

AOML responsibilities in the Argo program are as follows:

Hosting the US Argo Data Acquisition Center
Providing platforms and deploying the US Argo Atlantic floats
Maintaining the South Atlantic Argo Regional Cente

Official versions of Argo data lie on the Global Data Centers (GODAE and IFREMER) and the Argo Information Centre is the official site for information and support about the Argo program.

Climate Change Deniers Present Graphic Description Of What Earth Must Look Like For Them To Believe

    http://www.theonion.com/article/climate-change-deniers-present-graphic-description-51129

The skeptics laid out four conditions that must be met for them to accept that climate change isn’t simply a theory: 100 named hurricanes a year, the full evaporation of the Mississippi River, nine-month-long heat waves, and the complete extinction of every animal in the class Reptilia.

    NEWS
    August 19, 2015
    Vol 51 Issue 33

WASHINGTON—Evoking cataclysmic scenes of extreme weather and widespread drought and famine, the nation’s climate change deniers held a press conference Wednesday to describe exactly what the Earth must look like before they will begin to believe in human-induced global warming.

The group of skeptics, who said that the consensus among 97 percent of the scientific community and the documented environmental transformations already underway are simply not proof enough, laid out the precise sequence and magnitude of horrific events—including natural disasters, proliferation of infectious diseases, and resource wars—they would have to witness firsthand before they are swayed.

“For us to accept that the average surface temperature of the Earth has risen to critical levels due to mankind’s production of greenhouse gases, we’ll need to see some actual, visible evidence, including a global death toll of no less than 500 million people within a single calendar year,” said spokesperson William Davis, 46, of Jackson, NJ, who added that at least 70 percent of all islands on the planet would also have to become submerged under rising seas before he and his cohort would reconsider their beliefs. “To start, we’re going to have to see supercell tornadoes of category F4 or higher ripping through Oklahoma at least three times a day, leveling entire communities and causing hundreds of fatalities—and just to be perfectly clear, we’re talking year-round, not just during the spring tornado season.”

“The reality is that we’re still experiencing cold, snowy winters, and the entire global population is not currently embarking on cross-continental migrations in search of arable land,” Davis continued. “Until that changes, we cannot be expected to believe climate change is occurring.”

Davis went on to say that certain events, such as massive, uncontrollable wildfires across the U.S—not just restricted to the American West, but in areas including Florida and New England—would render climate change deniers open to reevaluating the decades’ worth of data that show the planet is warming at a catastrophic rate.

Additionally, Davis said that for the community to begin believing a single word of any scientific journal article corroborating climate change, every one of Earth’s glaciers would have to retreat at a rate exceeding 20 miles per year, and each of the skeptics, individually, would have to go a decade without seeing naturally occurring ice anywhere.

Furthermore, climate change deniers maintained that if the total number of plant and animal species on the planet remained higher than 200 in aggregate, they would not be dissuaded from their belief that Earth is simply experiencing one of its natural warming cycles that would eventually resolve itself on its own.

“I don’t think it’s too much to ask to see a super hurricane destroying the Southeast U.S. and another one at the same time decimating the Pacific Northwest before I make up my mind about this,” said global warming skeptic Michelle Wilkinson of Medina, MN, adding that she would be willing to recognize the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change if repeated and unpredictable storm surge flooding rendered every major East Coast city, including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., wholly uninhabitable. “The fact of the matter is that if I walk outside at any time of day at any point in the year and it’s below 90 degrees, then there simply isn’t enough proof that we need to be cutting carbon emissions.”

After clarifying that the desertification of major population centers, and the global refugee crisis that would result, would be necessary but not sufficient evidence of climate change, the skeptics reportedly unveiled a vivid artist’s rendering of the vast expanse of parched, lifeless earth and dead trees that each of them must see through the windows of their homes before reversing their opposition to public schools teaching children about global warming.

“We keep hearing all this mumbo-jumbo about the sixth mass extinction we’re in the midst of,” said Mitch McConnell, a U.S. senator from Kentucky, at the conclusion of the press conference. “Well, if that’s the case, then tell me this: Why aren’t the streets littered with human bodies right now, with the ragged bands of the still-living siphoning the moisture from the corpses of the dead?”

“We’re not unreasonable; we just need the evidence to be convincing before we make a decision,” McConnell added.

  6. Personally, I can't see anything wrong when preparing/ preventing a fire or climate catastrophe to happen before it's too late until any smoke/ fire is observed/ reported/ verified!

The price of not preparing/ preventing fire or climate catastrophe, that could cause irreversible/ irreparable environment, can be just too great to think of. Perhaps that is just to me!

    Q https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_protection_engineering

    Fire protection engineering

Fire engineering is the application of science and engineering principles to protect people, property, and their environments from the harmful and destructive effects of fire and smoke. It encompasses fire protection engineering which focuses on fire detection, suppression and mitigation and fire safety engineering which focuses on human behavior and maintaining a tenable environment for evacuation from a fire.

In the United States fire protection engineering is often used to include fire safety engineering.

The discipline of fire engineering includes, but is not exclusive to:

Fire detection - fire alarm systems and brigade call systems
Active fire protection - fire suppression systems
Passive fire protection - fire and smoke barriers, space separation
    Smoke control and management
Escape facilities- Emergency exits, Fire lifts etc.
Building design, layout, and space planning
    Fire prevention programs
    Fire dynamics and fire modeling
    Human behavior during fire events
    Risk analysis, including economic factors
    Wildfire management [1]

Fire protection engineers identify risks and design safeguards that aid in preventing, controlling, and mitigating the effects of fires. Fire engineers assist architects, building owners and developers in evaluating buildings' life safety and property protection goals. Fire engineers are also employed as fire investigators, including such very large-scale cases as the analysis of the collapse of the World Trade Centers. NASA uses fire engineers in its space program to help improve safety.[1] Fire engineers are also employed to provide 3rd party review for performance based fire engineering solutions submitted in support of local building regulation applications.

That one little burp by Mt. Etna has already put more than 10,000 times the CO2 into the atmosphere than mankind has in our ENTIRE time on earth but don't worry, a scam is in the works to tax you for your minuscule footprint....

  9. Just found the quite surprising information below.

    Q https://www.skepticalscience.com/volcanoes-and-global-warming.htm

    Climate Myth...

Volcanoes emit more CO2 than humans

"Human additions of CO2 to the atmosphere must be taken into perspective.

Over the past 250 years, humans have added just one part of CO2 in 10,000 to the atmosphere. One volcanic cough can do this in a day." (Ian Plimer)

The solid Earth contains a huge quantity of carbon, far more than scientists estimate is present in the atmosphere or oceans. As an important part of the global carbon cycle, some of this carbon is slowly released from the rocks in the form of carbon dioxide, through vents at volcanoes and hot springs. Published reviews of the scientific literature by Mörner and Etiope (2002) and Kerrick (2001) report a minimum-maximum range of emission of 65 to 319 million tonnes of CO2 per year. Counter claims that volcanoes, especially submarine volcanoes, produce vastly greater amounts of CO2 than these estimates are not supported by any papers published by the scientists who study the subject.

The burning of fossil fuels and changes in land use results in the emission into the atmosphere of approximately 30 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide per year worldwide, according to the EIA. The fossil fuels emissions numbers are about 100 times bigger than even the maximum estimated volcanic CO2 fluxes. Our understanding of volcanic discharges would have to be shown to be very mistaken before volcanic CO2 discharges could be considered anything but a bit player in contributing to the recent changes observed in the concentration of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere.

Volcanoes can—and do—influence the global climate over time periods of a few years but this is achieved through the injection of sulfate aerosols into the high reaches of the atmosphere during the very large volcanic eruptions that occur sporadically each century. But that's another story...

Recommended further reading on CO2 and volcanoes can be found here: Terry Gerlach in Earth Magazine ; USGS
