I wonder if trading via a computer/screen changed the game t such a point that nowdays mindfulness would be much more useful than jus during the open-cry period.
%% I doubt if the game has changed that much; as they say in Chicago the smarter[ more mindful] you are, the longer it takes........LOL. If i lived inside Chicago city limits, small$tops, i most likely could use small stops, 2.But then again i will never be the olympic champ shotgun shooter-she shoots 500 shots @ day That'$ practice, before you get the silver/gold medal/metal. Overall good thinking; intelligence could be more of an edge than -- NOT thinking ,LOL, as i noted To FranT........
Very interesting discussion, I do practice theravada buddhism. Mindfullness it is inspired by theravada's vipassana insight meditation, but stripped down from the "dharma" part (doctrine). I find it very relevant to the trading topic, mainly for the developing of "anatta" (non-self), an ego-less approach to existence and internal dialogue. Another point is that mediation promote the absence of cravings and repulsion, enhancing clear thinking, independence and limiting suffering (i.e from losses)
While both my trading and meditation practice have a LONG way to go, I can easily see how the principles and practice of mindfulness can have a substantial positive impact on ones trading. Besides the obvious advantage of having a clear mind when making decisions, having (or striving to have ) an ego-less approach in taking the inevitable losses is invaluable.
Treat yourself when you win. And when you lose ? Now that's at least 20 pushups. And repeating a mantra - I won't do that again !
Very interesting. Gotta find something that the person doesn't like doing but that has a small duration to not interfere with trading. Yet, a person with naturally adapt to these types of rewards/consequences. Thus, they'll need to frequently change it ???
A few years back I was with a women crazy about sex. She sometimes would give me a hummer while trading on her days off from work. If I had a bad trade...she would leave and go on one of her 2 hour bike rides. If I had a good trade, she would stay and finish the hummer. That's was the best motivator I ever had and she only did it when I was trading. New way of multi-tasking
