My only question is, where was this PPT in 2008? Oh, I see, they are all progressives and wanted Obama to win so they held off until March 09 to make their move.

  3. Any wonder the hammering on 12-31-09 end of day? PPT was long gone patting each other on the backside.

The fact that the market plunged more than 50% doesn't stop conspiracy wackos from believing there is a conspiracy to keep the market from plunging.

No shit, I once confronted one of these nuts and simply asked him why the market plunges if there is a Plunge Protection Team. He said it is to throw the sheeple like me off the scent.

These are also the same wackos that kept claiming President Clinton was going to cancel elections and remain Leader for Life. And you certainly don't want to remind them how they so confidently predicted President Bush was going to "capture" bin Laden one week before the 04 election. Those conspiracies go down the memory hole and woe to anyone rude enough to remind them.

But this goddam "they", or "PPT" or whatever they want to call it will continue in infinity.

  6. As far as we know, it is not illegal for the Federal Reserve or the U.S. Treasury to buy S&P 500 futures. Moreover, several officials have suggested the government and major banks could support stock prices.

For example, former Fed board member Robert Heller opined in the Wall Street Journal in 1989, “Instead of flooding the entire economy with liquidity, and thereby increasing the danger of inflation, the Fed could support the stock market directly by buying market averages in the futures market, thereby stabilizing the market as a whole.”

In a Financial Times article in 2002, an unidentified Fed official was quoted as acknowledging that policymakers had considered buying U.S. equities directly, not just futures. The official mentioned that the Fed could “theoretically buy anything to pump money into the system.” In an article in the Daily Telegraph in 2006, former Clinton administration official George Stephanopoulos mentioned the existence of “an informal agreement among the major banks to come in and start to buy stock if there appears to be a problem.”

Maybe one of you guys can answer this question: why would the PPT be a secret organization? The Fed has broad range powers; It can buy equities if it chooses. It has certainly bought mortgages and structured products that weren't in its usual portfolio en mass. Not only has it not made a secret of it, its purchase is most effective when EVERYBODY knows about it.

So what's so special about the equity market that they need to keep their operations secret there?
