Thought he meant the lira but treasury makes more sense. Still, my platform won't accept these strange and random symbols
I like building castles in my sandbox. When it comes to trading I am a big believer of learning one thing and doing it really well. Now when is this next vol event coming? Got some lv I am looking to unload.
Indeed, that was my approach too. Unfortunately, once I was required to produce a certain number of dollars, I had to crawl out of my sandbox (which was roughly the same as yours, SPX vol complex). I still trade a lot of VIX futures and options, but "I need more" and going cross-asset was the most obvious direction to gain capacity. I think shooting for "breadth" works better in systematic strategies. Once you backtest everything you gain some experience with the products anyway. If something does not make sense, you can reach out to someone who specializes in this product and pick their brains. IMHO, of course.
Ah, the pressure of working for others. I once considered that route but quickly realized I didn't care to share my profits w people I also had to answer to. Have you ever considered burning your resume, putting your pajama pants on and simply managing your own risk capital? There's enough capacity in vix land to sustain a very nice lifestyle even by NYC standards.
I tried it briefly and went back to working for the man. The primary reason was the health insurance. I quoted several private health insurance providers and got 6-digit quotes. That was before pre-existing condition legislature, which I think now is being rolled back again. The secondary reason is that my job allows me to make a donate a lot of money, which makes me feel good. Childish of me, to be honest, but it rocks my boat. True that. There are other niche strategies I've found that make better return on capital and/or Sharpe, especially in Asia. Nothing, however, beats the combination of capacity and opportunity in the SPX/VIX complex.
