If you switch off crude, Big Oil won't make big profits, and Big Brother won't collect big taxes -- so it ain't gonna happen for quite some time.

Hi acronym: Thanks for the link to this: Further developments using coal dust as fuel failed. A compression ignition engine that used oil as fuel was successful and a number of manufacturers were licensed to build similar engines.
    ----------------------------------------
First success was with oil... but coal dust was tried first. Interesting. I didn't know about the coal dust. I grew up driving a large diesel farm tractor and always liked it more then the same size in gas. (Of course a diesel engine cost a lot more years ago)
Our first diesel tractor in 1941 cost 63 Percent more then with a gas engine but we had it in almost constant use during WW2 so it payed off big time.
    Thanks again acronym... agpilot

  4. I am sure they tried everything , but coal has higher ignition point and delivery to the cylinders would have been a big problem with all these injectors, pumps ,regulators and compression needed.

  5. If anybody's interested...

The topic this morning (right now) on C-SPAN's Washington Journal is:

Can the US beat it's oil addiction?

If one liter of ocean can make 300 liters of gas, I was wondering how long it would take to use up too much ocean. Thank goodness for global warming and the rising oceans huh.

  8. hydrogen using alchemy, and distilled with an inert gas, such as nitrogen or argon, will make it more stable to be used in more applications, hence it is the most likely alternative combustible fuel instead of petroleum based derivatives.

I am surprised how many of you traders took me up on this most important topic, as the first few NASD traded stocks will be the phonies, similar to the nano stock craze. There really are significant profitunities here in this discussion thread, although these are not likely to bring a scalper any profits anytime soon.

The place is a socialist mess for sure, that will never change, but the info I got on the solar part is from a technical magazine, it uses parabolic mirrors focusing energy on a sterling steam engine, 550 megawatts from 7 square miles!! It is considered a pilot program at that level of generation so probably the plan is to become a net exporter of energy. How else can a state that hates business make $? :) Gov. Schwarzenegger moved the schedule up on the project completion from 2018 to 2012. He is pretty smart, when somebody buys a company they look for businesses within the business that can be split off and expanded, he's a business guy, maybe he found a business within california that the libs could live with.
