If the FBI and DOJ were doing their jobs, these criminals engaged in massive election fraud would be in jail already. Instead, they will cheat again in a massive scale in Georgia in the runoff elections. They are not going to stop now when they have gotten away with it with nobody being charged and prosecuted for it.

Trump continues to rake in millions of donations: where does that money go?

The holidays are traditionally the time to hand out gifts to friends and give alms to the poor. Trump makes good use of this by begging for donations from his supporters. With great success. Never before has he collected so many millions. What happens to all that money?

President Donald Trump and First lady Melania Trump both benefit financially from keeping the electoral fraud story alive.

"This is arguably the most important email I have ever sent you," President Donald Trump wrote on December 21 to his donors and anyone else interested who ever signed up for his campaign team's email list. Trump then asks for money to make fair elections possible.

Donald Trump has long since lost the November 3 presidential election. Yet every day he sends an average of five such begging emails to his supporters. If you include the text messages, the number sometimes comes to thirty. It is common for US politicians to charge money in advance of elections so that campaigns can be conducted with advertisements and rallies. But with Trump, the number of donation requests has only grown since his loss. And that is very unusual.

In November, Trump raised more than $ 170 million in donations. That's more than he ever picked up. His old monthly record dates back to September - just before the election - when Trump got $ 81 million. Trump has now raised a total of nearly 210 million since he lost the election.

With that money, Trump claims to fund a "defense team" to prove that the last election was "stolen" from him and that he is actually the rightful winner. That while both courts and the US Department of Justice have emphatically ruled that there is no evidence of massive electoral fraud.

"I want to give you an update on our ongoing efforts to expose the massive voting irregularities that took place during the ridiculously long November 3 elections," Trump said in an email on December 21. "As president, I have no higher duty than to defend the United States Constitution. That is why I am determined to protect our electoral system - which is under attack - but I cannot do it alone. I need your help. Please contribute $ 5 NOW to the BATTLE for the integrity of our elections, "

Similar messages are also pouring in around the holidays. The message is more or less the same every time: Trump tells his supporters that large-scale electoral fraud has been committed. The donors are needed to bring this fraud to light.

    Private expenses

But the defense fund Trump claims to be recruiting for doesn't exist at all. US media are digging into what's really happening to the millions Trump is now raking in: 75 percent turns out to be going to a Trump political action committee (PAC) set up in November. With that he can finance future political activities, the fine print says. That new movement is called Save America. Only 25 percent goes to a Republican committee that, among other things, pays off remaining campaign debts and also finances lawsuits.

The average donor who thinks he is giving money for a defense fund for the 2020 election does not realize that the vast majority of his donation will go to a new future Trump political movement.

There are few rules Trump has to adhere to when spending the money that is now coming in. By law, he is not allowed to spend the money directly on his own re-election in 2024, but for example on advertisements to blacken other Republican candidates or to support someone (such as one of his children). Trump thus remains a major force in the Republican party.

Trump also has a lot to gain privately. He may also use the money to pay for private expenses or to pay salary to himself or his family members. Trump could put that money to good use. He is at least $ 1.1 billion in debt with his companies. Over the next four years, he will have to pay off 420 million of this. Creditors are panting in his neck.

    Lucrative business

So a major motivation for Trump to keep the electoral fraud story alive is that it will earn him tons of money that he can spend a great deal on things that suit him.

While more and more party members are leaving the sinking ship - for example, Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell recently congratulated Joe Biden on his victory - there is also a group of dubious figures around Trump who support him in his lies about electoral fraud. Reason? It is also potentially lucrative for them. The donations that are now pouring in can be used to pay or support them as staff members.

Hardcore Trump supporters are not worried about how their donations are spent for the time being. Of course, they hope that the money will be used to challenge Trump's loss in 2020. But if that doesn't work, they'll be fine with using the money to increase Trump's chances of reelection in 2024.

It will have to be seen whether Trump will really spend the money on a new political movement or whether self-enrichment is more attractive to him. In that regard, the lessons from the past do not bode well. As president, Trump was very relaxed about the dividing line between work and private spending. For example, he paid millions of tax dollars on his own hotels if he or world leaders stayed there overnight. In Trump's view, work and private life can hardly be separated.
