Novel theory. In fact each country that is developed now was developing in era[sic] of slavery. By your logic, we should go back to that along with "low taxes, low regulations, and no social[sic]", or you just pick and choose what crappy aspects of life 200 years ago you think we should revert to?

If you like no government so much, in 50 years you will se [sic] the end game for those territories.....oh, no need to wait, like I said just look at the utopia that results when we follow your preferred form of low government, taxes, and no social in Somalia. Perhaps you can point to the places that produces a significant portion of world GDP right now, say 25% of the world's GDP, where your vision of "low taxes, low regulations, and no social" is in force? I mean, if it's a far superior way to operate as you seem to think, wouldn't those countries that adopted your vision be way ahead of the rest of us in GDP?

    Back to the thread topic.

South of Portugal is so nice...

On the other hand, not sure about living there full time.
Lisbon is a nice city too.

The south is very nice. Lisbon has become very expensive because so many have bought property there to meet the golden visa requirements. I know it's the case in many cities in Europe, but I found the graffiti in Lisbon to be completely out of control even in the Avenida da Liberdade area, which took a lot away from the aesthetics. For some reason graffiti makes me see red. Haven't been to Porto which I understand is also nice but becoming expensive as well.

It depends what is right" for you. If you know people who work there, live there you should ask them about the problems you won't see in media (because of censor).

And if you think about Sweden - this country became rich when they were not socialist country. Now they are socialist and now they are poorer and poorer.

And the taxation now in this region - if you have nothing against giving away 54-59% of your income, so it could be distributed among other people (including large numbers of non-working immigrants) - then maybe you will fell good there.

I just follow the principle - every man is the architect of his own fortune. I don't want anyone to give me anything but I also don't want anyone to took from more than the necessary minimum or what I want to give myself.

Location of a broker is irrelevant. Where the companies you trade are headquartered is slightly more relevant. For example Cyprus taxes foreign sources capital gains (inc. trading) if the traded company has most of it's holdings in Cypriot real estate.

There's a middle ground but most western countries have stepped way over the line. When politicians simply want to increase taxes to pay off the lowest classes for them not to rebel against the leadership, you have a vicious cycle of legal corruption.

Ehh same socialist bla bla like in every other discussion of that kind. Thanks to those "crappy aspects" you have whole modern world that is around you. You like it or not. And the truth is that countries with minimal taxes and a lot of freedom were the fastest growing countries and are the fastest growing countries now. Slavery and other things like that were also the result of a different kind of thinking that is much changed now. As the technology is changed. You have countries with low taxes now - do you see slavery in those ? About Somalia typical leftie "pick up argument" - why you didn't pick up Singapore, Estonia, Romania, Georgia, Malta, UAE, Switzerland ? or many other like those ? Let's talk about those

Someone else famously, but sadly it turns out apocryphally said the same thing in a slightly different manner; "let them eat cake" anyone? Or another way to put it, when the lowest classes aren't content to stay lower class where they belong and democratically elected leaders have the gall to represent those who elected them instead of ensuring massive wealth disparities persist and increase, you have a working democracy. Sounds like you prefer an oligarchy, for that I suggest Russia at the moment.

With no taxes for the government? What's the government living on? Either they have non-existent social service infrastructure and you have to come up with everything, i.e. hire your own security firm, fire-fighting services, your own private doctors or go to the neighbouring countries like Spain for healthcare and etc., or the sales taxes must be through the roof. Everything has a cost and it has to be paid from somewhere.

Would love to visit there someday though. I heard the beaches are awesome, some of them are still untouched and undiscovered.

So first off, "same socialist bla bla" is a three year old level argument, surely you can do better than that?

But let's talk about those places. First off, they together represent what, 3% of the world's GDP? And seriously, Singapore, the place where it's illegal to sell chewing gum, that kind of low regulation? UAE, where the internet is heavily censored, you can spend the rest of your life in jail for saying the wrong thing, and having sex with anyone but your wife is illegal.... that kind of low regulation? Have you ever actually been to or even read about any of these places, or you've got to be joking, right? Georgia, with a GDP per capita of $4,300, that's your idea of low tax results? I spent the summer in Romania, the countryside was gorgeous but the 19% VAT sure didn't seem like low taxes to me and those I spoke to didn't seem terribly bullish on their country as a shining city on the hill for starting new businesses. And then there's good old Somalia, which actually does have exactly the things you seek, no taxes and no government, but you can't provide a good reason why you don't want to talk about that; what does "typical leftie "pick up argument"" even mean and what logic does it represent?

I can't imagine a more asinine argument than the idea that we should go back to the way things were 200 years ago because growth was higher then. First off, it wasn't higher. Western Europe's GDP per capita grew from $2,307 in 1820 to $5135 in 1920, a growth of $2828 or 122%. In the next 100 years it grew to $40,000, a growth of 679%! The impact in the U.S./Canada/Australia was even more dramatic.

    upload_2021-11-1_14-50-48.png

As you can clearly see from the chart, as we increased the the dreaded taxes, regulation, and social the rate of growth actually dramatically increased. So yeah, the opposite of what you said. All the more remarkable because it's much harder to achieve even the same year on year percentage growth as you get bigger.....my little company has blown away Google and Apple in year over year growth for the past 5 years, but that was a whole lot easier for me to accomplish than them and certainly doesn't mean I have a better way of doing things than they do. I would actually hope that places like Romania had dramatically higher growth rates than the rest of Western Europe and the U.S. because they come from a tiny base to start with, but they're actually bouncing around the same rate as the rest of Europe.

That's what we call an actual discussion with actual data and actual arguments. Notice the lack of any sophomoric references, no "bla bla" dismissals, just actual refutation of what you incorrectly claimed. If you'd like to continue with an adult level discussion like this, happy to do so. What you've come up with so far though, it's just embarrassing for you.
