Portland - Antifastan Mob Rule

  1. Yup, speaking of Kroger's, here is another fine "customer" who just cut into their profit margin a smidge.

Clearly a failure on the part of Kroger's to meet his high standards. Hopefully, Krogers will do the smart thing and issue him a quick apology with a small settlement for his inconvenience. Otherwise, it will escalate. Especially if they did not let him use the restroom before leaving.

Nashville man tossed over $250,000 worth of food at Kroger in the trash, because it cluttered the freezers

Keep in mind I've yet to see Walmart issue statements that they were experiencing losses due to shoplifting making those locations untenable. Righties see looting in SF or during riots so they just go w/whatever fox tells them. For all we know, Portland is filled to the brim w/"organic/anticorporate" types who only shop at kroger.

From the very right wing arm of Yahoo.com:

Walmart Set to Close All Stores in Portland amid Record-Breaking Retail Theft

“Theft is an issue. It’s higher than what it has historically been,” McMillon (Walmart CEO) told CNBC. Prices “will be higher and/or stores will close,” the executive added if Oregon authorities failed to address rampant shoplifting.

  4. The somewhat subtle but smart thing that Walmart is doing in Portland is to shut all the stores down- based on the lessons learned over the last few years.

A lot of these companies have tried just shutting down the problem stores and leaving any that were doing okay alone. Nope. Don't do that. You end out month after month before the city councils and with lawsuits trying to argue that you are redlining and refusing to service "disadvantage neighborhoods" and why are you creating "food deserts for poor people."

Nope. Treat everyone equally by just getting the fuck out?"

As I continually say: The lefties have "improved" so many cities to the point where they are no longer liveable.

  5. Walmart in downtown D.C. not far from Union Station also closing after 10 years....too much crime and complaints so Walmart shutting it down. Sad for the people because it was the cheapest grocery in that whole area but always a bunch that got to fuck it up for everyone else..

  6. Starbucks did the same thing.

Yes, they took a public relations beating for not letting some black guy use the restroom and had the whole company stand down for a day of contrition. All fine and woke. And they swore to make everything better for the future. I think the individual/black guy in that case did suffer an indignity because he was a paying customer. But the larger point is the employees are finding it difficult to sort out all of this. Trying to do the right thing. Too much to handle.

Meanwhile, in the background while Starbucks was committing to improve in the future, they started right in on working a future plan to just shut down massive numbers of stores in various areas where it was just too dangerous and burdensome to interact with the public. Easier to just shut the store down than rationalize all the responses to flaky scenarios.

    No winners in these scenarios.

It is possible that Walmart can shut stores for different reasons. I know, that's a wild idea. For example, the one in Pinellas County - which was a different format (having gone to it, I knew it wouldn't work) - was a bad business model.

February 8, 2023 - Arkansas-based giant retailer Walmart announced it will close its Walmart Neighborhood Market in Pinellas Park, located on 6900 U.S. Highway 19 N. Walmart officials said the closure, which is set for March 10, is due to the store's underperformance.
So Walmart officials specifically said the store closures in Portland were related to external impacts (theft, violence, etc) and the theft in the one FL store was due to underperformance. But don't let me get in the way of a good trolling.
