POLL: What is the World's Most Evil Religion?

Discussion in 'Religion and Spirituality' started by candletrader, Nov 29, 2003.

  1. Absolutely big words and eloquent speech mean nothing. I have read articles from so many academics and journalists who make terrible arguments while writing eloquently. But I disagree that Darkhorse was offering nothing but sophistry.

  2. Science has given man more free time, true.

Science has extended the lifespan, true.

Science has given man more physical comfort, true.

Science has allowed more time time for study. true.

Yet spirituality doesn't depend on physical comfort, time, lifespan, or the kind of learning that comes from reading books.

Love of God and spirituality can be practiced by the most illiterate. Love of God and spirituality can be practiced while engaged in work or any other activity. Love of God and spirituality doesn't require good health, or physical comfort. Physical luxury has nothing to do with love of God or spirituality.

Spiritual practice is a function of the heart, not the intellectual mind.

While our society gives us that time, is spirituality really where people are spending their "free time?"

As I mentioned previously, the rise in the need for anti-depressants and other mind altering drugs, the abuse of alcohol, the divorce rate, etc. all indicate that our society is not becoming more spiritually fulfilled.

The rise in materialism and the love of and attachment to materialism is opposite to the values of spirituality and inner happiness, which is not dependent on the physical sides of life.

  3. I think a better way of putting it would be to say an extremely finite being juding a theoretically objective and perfect being and/or logic system.

  4. It is obvious to anyone that if faith did work for you, you would not be an atheist.

You are a failed theist, and your perspective flows from that point of view.

Your consistent use of verbal abuse is enough for any reasonable person to see the unresolved issues you have with your failure in faith.

  5. I have always said unicorns exist. Are you now saying I have to PROVE it. Geeeeez, this is gonna be tough. :)

  6. Picture of 777 asking his invisible friend for help in this debate :D

Get a clue 777. If faith DID work for me, it still would not
prove that god exists. I just would have an invisible
friend like YOU do! LMAOOOO :D

The main difference between us is the fact that I ditched
my invisible friend along with santa and the easter bunny :D

  7. That sure as hell is a "friendly" wager. In 10 years, with the inevitable inflation that is coming our way due to our policies, that $50 will maybe buy a coke and a smile. :)

  9. Explain where the need to ridicule is not poisoning the well.

Verbal abuse, of the type you are engaged in is a common response of someone who cannot reason and communicate dispassionately.

More evidence of your failed theism and the baggage yet unresolved.

  10. Arent you even capable of doing a google search?

Go find the definition of Poisoning the well, and catch a clue.
A joke is NOT poisoning the well.

But here is yet another example:
More evidence of your failed theism and the baggage yet

Now THAT is poisoning the well, that is, if you even
knew what the definition of that fallacy was, which you
    obviously dont :D
