question for atheists : If christianity is anti-progress, science, etc, why then is the west so far advanced, in these areas, compared to the east or athiest based countries ? christianity is the dominant religion of western man, yet science and progress thrive in the west. ever wonder why ?? best, surfer
Surf, I think it has much less to do with Christianity than it does with America being a highly motivated capatalist country. You don't seriously believe that Christianity has spawned our industrial age more so than the love of money do you? This is by far the most materialistic country in the world, it only makes sense to me that our material growth would outpace the rest. With that said, it is true, that many eastern flavored "religions" (if they can even be considered as such; Taoism, Budhusim, Hinduism, etc) have certain belief structures that have hindered their lands material growth.
