If their is a physical world, why would there not be a spiritual (metaphysical?) world? EDIT: Maybe, as what I think Iam's is alluding to, when everything merges and there are no more polar opposites, is when true enlightenment happens... but then it seems we would just revert back to square one... again.
why would there be? there doesn't HAVE to be anything more than what we have now. those 'opposites' don't really exist they are all in your so called mind (don't you realize this?) existence is shades of gray not polar opposites, that's just a product of your limited mind
Of course there doesn't HAVE to be. But why make judgements based on what you think the supposed state of mind you're in? That's like saying "If I were a ghost, I'd be able to walk through walls." It's neither here nor there and on top of it, flawed. It's like I would say to Iams, "Why deal with suppositions?" They're all moot. I'm gonna deal with the hear and now with the facilities I have, which will change when ready. pinhead.
Ok. I can't argue with that. What we can do though, is train our minds to accept the suppositions while we are yet dealing with what we believe is hardcore reality...even though it's not. Mind you, it could take years and years of training in what I'll call "forgiveness"...to be able to walk through walls, so-to-speak. The question is, what would motivate anyone to begin such training, given that the payoff could be years down the road with little evidence to show that progress is being made? I would say it would take someone willing to sit down and hear a complete presentation explaining the big picture. The explaination will have to make sense to the listener. The benefits would have to be motivational. And the flip side would needs be considered, in case there is not enough motivation to begin. Perhaps looking at the downside might motivate. So many attention spans are geared toward getting information in sound bytes. And there are so few who can really present the big picture in a purely unbiased way. Mind's are rather closed inside thier beliefs. To walk through walls, one would needs be willing to question every value they currently hold...daily...for years. Bodies are very much like ghosts. They see what they want to see, believing what they want to believe, stuck on stupid more or less. They suppose they are alive and belong some place. So they "haunt" it. Likewise, humans haunt places they believe is their home. But it's not really "home". Deep down they know this. Like ghosts, they may need some convincing to quit haunting their beloved houses...and move on toward true life. Christ!
Atheists, agnostics dismiss the unseen world and rightly so. Others of us are a bit kooky and will not give up on the mystery. Battlefields and some graveyards are hallowed ground to us kooks. Don't ask me why. The thing that separates us from the animal world is intellect and a spiritual component. Such as discussing life and death.
The opposite of a physical world is not a spiritual (metaphysical?) world. The opposite of a world is not another world of any sort. Using that commonsensical thinking, how come the opposite of a physical world is not a non physical non existence? How come you have the opposite of life (death) one minute, then you have it as something which sounds like another sort of life (spiritual /metaphysical ) and not opposite the next? You have a physical world then you still have a spiritual world as the opposite. An enormous amount of wishful thinking doesn't make opposites, does it.
What about Neanderthals? Did they get to go to heaven or hell? Completely different species from us. Somewhat similar design and they buried their dead, but yet, not human.
