POLL: IB TWS vs J-TRADER, Which is more "Reliable"?

Discussion in 'Order Execution' started by Nana Trader, Mar 26, 2004.

  1. PuffyGums,

I was referring to JTrader not to TWS.

I don't get any unusual disconnects with IB or eSignal. Put it another way: JTrader disconnects when IB and eSignal keep working fine.

Just my experience.. not trying to bash any software or broker.

PS - it is statistically logical that there are a lot of complaints about IB in this website, for a simple reason: most traders here use IB, and therefore every glitch gets a dedicated thread. The fact that there are much less threads about problems with other brokers, can indicate either that these brokers are 100% flawless, or, alternatively, that hardly anyone uses them, and that's why we don't see threads about them. You decide what's more probable.
My personal experience: after using IB TWS, JTrader, Redi+, and Datek, IB is by far the most reliable, and by far the most potent platform. TWS is light years ahead of the others, in my experience anyway.

  2. btw another potential issue with jtrader. if you have sun java installed on your system (required to use IB), jtrader will work extremely slow. you will have to uninstall the Sun Java.

Alternatively you can use the stand alone version of jtrader, which is not slow, except that version is out of date and is no longer being developed.

that's the way it goes on my machine anyway. i also read that other traders had the same problem.

  4. Nana Trader,

You can try them for free.. will help you evaluate both functionality and reliability.

That I am not pleased with them does not mean that other traders won't like them.

    Truff

I use J-trader both at home and in my office. In my office it works flawlessly, but at home i do lose price feeds frequently. Ive been told the loss of the feed can be either of the following: 1- poor internet connection. 2- slow processor. 3- not enough RAM.

  6. first I would like to thank you for contributing to this
    thread in detailed way.

As to what "truff" said and earlier you said that you had like
20 disconnection per day, you might have to think some
problems was from your end too, because TWS and Esignal
might work with slower internet connection and lower
configured PC and J-trader might not respond well.
Even few disconnection everyday, doesn't make sense for
    any trader to use it.

Sure i know many broker with free demo on J-trader, but i
need to hear from those who have been trading on both
plateform like several monthes at least.

Do you mean stand alone version is downloadable version?
and which version you have been using?

  9. Cannot vote because I cannot compare between J-Trader and IB. Voting would be meaningless.

Perhaps you can change your poll: eg
    - Are you happy with XYZ
    - Do you think it needs reliability improvement
    - do you think downtime due to internet
    - do you think downtime due to server of XYZ
    - do you think XYZ is doing enough to improve the uptime
    - are you investigating others brokers / services because you like to change if you find a better service / broker than XYZ?
    - do you think charting is important
    etc?

the questions are not open ended and the manner in which the questions that are asked can result in that the answers are considerably skewed.

Even the simple question: Are you looking at changing your XYZ can tell more (IMHO)

Personally I am not looking at changing and am happy with the service from IB.

    Regards

  10. Actually , you just go into your browsers options Tools->Internet Options->Advanced-> Sun Java and deselect it. This works for individual sessions.
    Beats installing/uninstalling mania.
    :)
