Where did he apologize for anything racist? Its says he apologized for not courting black voters. There is a big difference between not courting voters and advocating racism. If you don't understand that, then I don't know what to tell you. "Perhaps the most famous use of push polls is in the 2000 United States Republican Party primaries, when it was alleged that George W. Bush's campaign used push polling to torpedo the campaign of Senator John McCain. Voters in South Carolina reportedly were asked "Would you be more likely or less likely to vote for John McCain for president if you knew he had fathered an illegitimate black child?"" Wikipedia I like the words 'alleged' and 'reportedly' in the description. It does not sound like a lot of hard evidence to me. Nice try though.
Who sanctioned this in the Republican Party? Don Imus is a democrat as well as Robert Byrd. Keep digging Seneca, keep digging.
So Kerry lost due to racism? Is that actually your contention? One presidential election has turned on racism. The last one. Obama got the nomination and won largely due to his race. He got 99% of black votes. That is far more than the southern white vote for Reagan or anyone else.
The real question to ask- Is it less logical to believe that a significant majority of a party is racist or is it less logical to actually debate a person who believes that a significant majority of the party is racist?
read my post again; I said the map reflects the success of the southern strategy of courting the white vote in the south began by Nixon, continued by Reagan at Neshoba with his states rights speech, continued with "push polls' asking if you would vote for a white guy with a black child, Trent Lott's dumb ass comments at a birthday party for an acknowledged racist, the widespread use of "code words" by republicans, the attack on Harold Ford, etc and yes, Mehlman did apologize for past racist tactics without actually saying it but everyone who heard it knew what he was talking about. Lest we forget, Trent Lott (a scumbag that I've had a couple lunches with btw), praised Strom Thurmond who ran for POTUS in part by: ....upholding the "right" of, in his words, "Southern People" to keep "niggers" out of "our theaters...swimming pools...homes and...churches." Boy you are a GOPr resorting to clintonesque tactics; really cool. People who study this sort of thing reach a very different conclusion than you: From Drew Westen's book, The Political Brain: "Since the mid-1960's, the party of Lincoln has desecrated his memory. Republicans have opposed every effort to extend equal rights to anyone who isn't white. They have played the race card in every presidential election they have won since 1968. As long as Democrats don't turn racism into a character issue, Republicans will continue to use it as an instrument of political persuasion." Seneca
The apology took place in Baltimore; and in it there is no question that he apologized for the republicans taking advantage of race as reported: " RNC Chairman Ken Melman apologized to the NAACP Thursday for the GOP's "southern strategy" launched during the Richard Nixon campaigns. The southern strategy was designed to appeal to white southern voters upset with the civil rights movement. It served as a wedge to divide southern voters -- eventually leading to the fall of the "solid south" voting pattern for Democrats. Chairman Melman told the NAACP it was "wrong." No ifs ands or buts, the GOP took advantage of race in the south starting with Goldwater and perfected by Nixon. BTW-the Dems. had mastered using southern racism long before the Republicans did following the war between the states /reconstruction, and had a solid lock on the south til the GOP's Southern Strategy. An excellent book on this: "The Rise of Southern Republicans" by Black and Black. http://www.amazon.com/Rise-Southern-Republicans-Earl-Black/dp/0674012488 Seneca
Huh? You implied that Bush somehow used racism to win in 2004. You also said they apologized for this racism. When pressed about the apology, it turns out the apology had to with Nixon. What kind of screwed up logic is that? What did Nixon have to do with the 2004 election? Get real. In 1976 Jimmy Carter won the south. Maybe that means he is a racist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_1976 The racist argument is really getting old and tired. I think the only racist left in the America are democrats. They certainly seem to have race on their mind. Nonstop.
