  1. Mob, including gang psychology does explain it. It doesn't make it right, but it does explain it.

If the initiators were the leaders, and the followers got a call...what are the followers going to do?

They knew what gang they were joining...and there are a number of reasons people joing gangs/mobs.

Mob psychology can be spur of the moment, or it can be a mentality or just "following orders" of the alpha dog.

Say in the old west, some ranchers caught someone stealing cattle.

They send riders out to the crew to come quickly as they are going to hang the cattle rustler.

Now, the sherrif hears of this, and rides out to stop the hanging...saying the accused rustler is entitled to a fair trial.

Was the lynch party a mob? Sure. Were those that came running to party with the lynch party predisposed to lynch a man without giving the man due process? Perhaps, perhaps they just want to keep their job.

Were the german soldiers, the grunts allowed to walk for their efforts in WWII?

    Yes.

Why? They were just following orders...or potentially be killed themselves.

Gang dynamics, (include the Mafia here) are such that if you don't follow orders, you can get killed.

The behavior of all guilty parties should be punished, but it is much more of a complex phenomena because of the nature and structure of the group than some would like to admit.

  2. Not disappointed at all. I doubt either one of you put much thought into the situation...

  3. The mob/gang existed before the incident, it was not a bunch of strangers in a bar raping a chick like in the film "The Accused."

Tell me that organized crime (a gang) is not called the mob...

So Rocco calls Vito and says, "we are banging some chick, get over here and enjoy the fun."

Rico is going to say no, and risk the blowback of not being a "real" member of the mob?

Remember, loyalty to a mob/gang is a most important value to the gang/mob, and even when "made" that loyalty is constantly tested.

  4. I do think it is interesting that a gang like the Corleone family is glorified, where street gangs of blacks are villianized.

I see no difference between the two actually...but some people do.

People watch Scarface again and again...but would they watch a similar movie about blacks?

The one exception might be New Jack City, but New Jack City doesn't have the appeal of Scarface.

Watchers of "Sons of Anarchy" regularly root for the "good" guys, and hate the other gangs...

  5. It's too late for differentiation; they made the choice to be part of it. Execute 'em.

  7. Well yea, we know that and we all agree ...fry em. But we're onto the next thing. We have a sort of mob thing going here too.
Anybody who dares or even hints at taking the other side EVEN WHEN HE SAID FRY EM HIMSELF gets jumped on for analyzing
the thing beyond dog chases p/u truck.

  8. Take your liberal bullshit and stick it. Words mean things. He specifically wrote "this kind" of evil, NOT "unfathomable evil" or words to that effect. If he meant something else, that's on him for writing it poorly, not on those reading it for interpreting it in accordance with standard usage.

I take the gist to be a warning that the capacity for this kind of evil dwells within us all. And that is undeniably true.

  9. I bet you're quite safe behind your keyboard. Fear not.

I have a whole bunch of kids and I tell you this... there wouldn't be a family member of the guilty left standing if it happened to one of mine. Nature or nurture. Let their belief in reincarnation be of some solace to them. I'll add that it is my belief that the parent(s) of this unfortunate girl share some responsibility in this "latch-key" scenario.

  10. My most recent post referred to, how could I know you drink. I meant you behave like a rowdy drunk the way you react to everything with uncontrolled hysteria and assuming you're the only one appalled at this. You're going so far as to say he's advocating it when all he's doing is analyzing it.

Ever hear of set theory and Venn diagrams? Let me direct you to them for insight into your penchant for misinterpretation.
