  1. Yes I meant the very low limit tables to learn on. Just under break even tells me that youre about evenly matched there and the rake is taking a bite. You have to learn to change your strategy as the table gets smaller and then hone your heads up skills.

Actually, Party software blows, but one thing it's good at is bringing table where action is on you to the forefront (make sure i sit at corner seat of each table - top left, top right, etc). 4 at a time is relatively ez, plus ez to be patient when lots of stuff going on, just no web surfing while playing.

    FOR NEWBIES:
If you wanna start playin online, here is a link to get a deposit bonus at party poker - not the best software/support (pokerstars has best software/support), but most "fish" - bad players, and most games (you could just use play money in the beginning for free, to get idea of what it's about):

  5. Reardon, Nik, and others: questions:

    (1) Does it really matter which of the "big four" internet poker rooms a guy plays at, if he knows what he's doing?

    (2) Money management: what's a decent amount of 'margin'? It seems to me a safe amount of $$ to have for a given table is high $ x 200. On the $1/$2 table this means $2x200 = $400. By safe, I mean enough money for a decent player to keep playing despite a run of really bad luck. My number is just empirical. I noticed on the $1/$2 table I could go +$100 on a good nite or -$100 on a bad nite.

For ring games and sit n go tourneys, party is the best, worst software, but also worst players (for me more important), and most games, also payout the fastest. THeir multitable tourneys are suck though, crashes all the time. Pokerstars has best software and support but also the best players. UB somewhere in the middle. Note, Paradise rebuy tourneys have lots of fish but they take their 9% juice on rebuys too, which Stars/UB don't take.

  7. Hi Peter

I believe Malmuth and others suggest about 300 big bets to ride out the swings; that would be 'high x 300 = $600'. I don't think, however, that these numbers were based upon the super-loose play seen online at these low limits, which can obviously increase your variance. I have a feeling that the pros might suggest even more than this for the online micro-limit tables such as the one you asked about ($1-2).

You noticed that you can go -$100 on a bad night and you could certainly run into a string of bad nights.

  8. Ist tourney today second hand all in on pair of kings the other guy shows aces. Few minutes later another tourney first hand pair of queens runs into fives full of fours on the flop busted out. Took a breather got into ring game, first hand pair of tens, flop trips, guy makes flush on the river, naturally we were all in by then. Was on a hot streak for a few days but slammed into a brick wall today. I cut my losses for the day at that point. Fun day in pokerland.:)

You are smarter than me, 1 of my leaks is that I don't stop while running bad (like today), need to work on it. Better luck tomorrow.
