EpiphanyTrading, I am guessing you are looking to use point-and-click or hot keys to intiate order entry. So, you'd start order entry and then have to type in the price of a limit or stop order anyway.

Consider a platform that allows entering both the order type and the price with a single click. For example, XTrader, ButtonTrader, NinjaTrader.

  2. You could also buy a regular numpad and do something similar. Just change the hotkey settings in your software or get a macro type program. Something like this http://www.autohotkey.com/ Ive never tried it though. You can also change the physical keys or use those stickers.

i had this, but turned out i couldn't use it with macro express properly and my front end (was setting it up to spray orders but had issues)

this was years ago, so maybe the product is better now.
ergodex is great though, just map out the keys/functions however you like, just google it.

  4. I have tried mapping a Nostromo Speedpad. It works. Try experimenting a bit more or read the manual. :)

    Hope that helps. :D

I will be picking this up this week and trying it. It would be phenomenal if it did work.

  6. what's wrong with using shift and/or ctrl+letter keys?

    I have shift+ Z through N filled with BUY keys, shift+ A through H filled with sells...

    numpad changes quantity of shares

    arrow keys move limit price

    enter enters orders

Does anyone actually use the a-typical keyboards for entry. If so, we would like to here how well they work.

I have a pad by Xkeys:

Specifically, the Pro one (170 USD):

You may want to check out Logitech's (80 USD):

    And Ergodex's (150 USD):

Hotkeys allow you to improve your accuracy entering (and modifying orders), particularly with fast moving instruments, such as crude oil.

I've tried using it directly with IB's TWS, since so far NinjaTrader does not allow the use of hotkeys (they're implementing them in the new Version 7, we'll see how they work).

However, I haven't yet found a good way to use the keyboard across multiple instruments/windows, since you need have the window/DOM ladder selected for it to work properly. If you just want to use it with one instrument, it works fine.

    Best trading,

    Jorge
