Yeah, basic logic, how else could it work. His own screenshot shows it would’ve worked in his example.
Re: Please help if you can, support via IB not great up to now This post is really great example why IB support is not great. People can't use a computer, can't read, can't follow instructions shown to them, can't use a keyboard, don't pay attention to details, and they imagine they want to be traders. Whenever someone complains about IB support, please point to this post demonstrating that there aren't enough people in the world that IB could hire to support everyone who doesn't know how to use a computer. I can't even imagine the volume of pointless questions that IB support has to deal with, even after they've added helpful instructions into their software explaining how to use it. This also takes time away from relevant questions that the support actually could be helpful with.
Let me walk you through the process.... I use trade ideas for alerts. Alert pops up, I now go to my order entry ticket box. I type in the ticker symbol (only way this can be done right? After I get the alert) Then that box pops up, the one I gave screen shots for. So how does shift/enter fix my issue? When I put the ticker symbol in, I only want to trade stocks, not be shown all the other options. If this is wrong please walk me through what you are saying, because it does not make sense
Pressing shift enter as I said is no different to me clicking STOCKS. Same thing and leaves me with the same issues I am doing 2 processes vs one!
You say all of this, yet when I type the ticker symbol in the only option I have from there is to click enter! If click shift/enter, which was obvious and I tried before I came here it does not work! As I have said many times I ALWAYS have to click enter then choose stocks, which is a real problem for me! Also it makes your post look pretty rude and you silly and wrong!
I don't know what trade ideas is, how it relates to IB, or why would you be contacting IB support about something else. This is also an example why IB can't do their job. You either have a question about iB or about something called "trade ideas", whatever that is. It would be confusing to IB support to mention some other products and mix them with questions about IB's product. Re: I type in the ticker symbol (only way this can be done right? Then that box pops up, the one I gave screen shots for. It doesn't pop-up if you first press Shift-Enter instead of Enter. Simply don't press Enter. Nothing can pop-up if you type something and don't press Enter, so don't press Enter. Press Shift+Enter instead of Enter. Sometimes it will pop-up if there is no US stock with such symbol but there are others that can be selected.
before you slated me for being clueless I did that already! It does not work! It is an IB issue not trade ideas. If you read what I wrote....I said I use trade ideas to scan for alerts....so again, I get my alerts from trade-ideas. Once the stock I got alerted to pops up I can link trade-ideas or type it in manually to IB. Now here is where the problem starts........shift enter AFTER I type in the ticker symbol does NOT work, nothing happens, I can post a video and show you. So my ONLY option is to press enter after the stock symbol is put into the order box. Then I have to choose from the options shown, which I do not want as it causes issues.
Just to add to this silly comment which was aimed at me. I am a former high stakes poker pro, in which 98% of people that try and beat HS poker fail. I did not! So your comments and what you implied does not count for me!
I'm sorry, but I ran a software company in the past and therefore support department, and we were 90% busy with support cases that we shouldn't have been, and that weren't related directly to our product, but often related to people being inexperienced with using pretty much any software, including computer itself. IB's product has tons of features and ways to use it, so they must be busy with people asking just how to use the thing. And no one even wants to do tech support jobs because if they're any good then they can find better jobs, like actual software development, product management, or even supporting less complex products that can feel more fulfilling to support. Maybe IB could do better by running community-based support and chiming-in to address common questions that cannot be answered by others. My point was that you don't need to bother IB with every little question either. Your expertise in poker only confirms that you didn't spend much time at a computer, which isn't a problem but just a fact that may benefit you in other ways. As for your issue, others confirmed here on ET that Shift+Enter works for them, so I don't know why this wouldn't work for you.
