The movie was called "The Program". In the movie, the star quarterback and his teammates are drinking at a bar. One of the guys says "are you going to lead us to the promised land?" (a championship). He responds, "I'll lead, question is.....can you boys follow?" Cut to the next scene where they're all laying in the middle of a busy road while cars are whizzing past them on both sides. Anyway, a few kids tried to show off and mimic the movie. A couple were killed and some others were injured. Thanks for looking that up. 1993, 14+ years ago. I never saw the movie, but I remember some of the news story, yet I can't remember what happened 5 minutes ago. Or maybe I just don't understand what happened 5 minutes ago. Hollyweird and kids don't mix well. The movie is rated R. I suppose a lot of parents took their kids to see it. I wonder how many of those parents took the whole family out to take a nap in the middle of a busy intersection after seeing the movie.
I lived in a small desert town. Somebody got upset about all the dogs running loose, there were lots of dog owners that let their dogs out at night... or all day... Every morning there were a dozen dead dogs strewn about on the main road leading out of town. It went on for weeks. I never knew who did it or what prompted them but I have to guess they got menaced or attacked and wanted animal control to take notice.
