Pictures of your trading stations

  1. Yep, the old Dell multimedia keyboard - it's great (as you know). I have a pile of them (maybe 8) and I'll keep using them until something else decent comes along. I tried the new mm keyboard and it's a totally different feel. Also, I find the old MM keyboard has a similar feel to the latest Bloomberg keyboard which makes switching between the two easier.

Usually my goal is to find something that feels similar to whatever BB's latest is so that my fingers don't go crazy bouncing between the two.

    Hi Guys,

First time posting here. Came across this thread, digged it, and decided to post a picture of our setups. Currently running 6 23" Asus monitors being fed by an ATI Firepro w600. So far everything has worked silky smooth. Some might consider the graphics card somewhat of an atrocity due to its price tag or price/performance ratio. In all honesty, I've put the card through its paces via benchmark tests, etc. and, as expected, it terribly lags other offerings, especially given its MSRP. That being said, the simplicity of having 6 mini-DisplayPorts in a single card and its very low (~50w) power consumption make it ideal for trading stations, which it handles flawlessly.

Everything currently stands on an Ergotech Hex Stand; so far a solid mount. We're moving to a new office next week which is a lot nicer. As such, will probably have to transition to a nicer stand. Have been looking at the Cotytech 6 arm stand. If you guys know of other nice setups, please share.

    Best,
    M.

Although I'm not an IT guru, I honestly think that if your video card can run 4 monitors, the CPU speed difference between an i5 and an i7 processor won't make much of a diference. A faster chip will most definitely be noticeable if you're doing some CPU intensive work but as far as displaying 4 monitors it shouldn't make much of a diference.

  5. it really has more to do with the capacity of the video card.. Memory can computational power... specs here..

it has the capcity to run 4 monitors.. I like more memory.. I have 20gigs on my pc and its not new.. I'd just spend the extra couple hundo and get a I7, with 16 gigs, and SSD drives.. But that's what i would do.. I'm not trying to bare bones budget things..

If you just want the PC for trading and it can display the amount of monitors you want then you should be all set. I set our office up with relatively high-end PCs for us portfolio managers and some mid-end PCs for everyone else and I can honestly say that it is more than likely overkill. Financial apps don't consume as much CPU (not to mention GPU) power as you may think unless you're running huge data sets or extremely complex models locally. As such, I think that the setup you mention is more than capable of fulfilling your needs. 20gb RAM & SSD hard drives have their place but they are most likely unnecessary for a trading workstation.

Definitely. 3d games run like sh!t on my PC even though I have a $500 video card. It was designed for workstations/digital signage and it does an outstanding job at it. Nonetheless, a hardcore gamer would roll his eyes at its performance for gaming.
