  2. ...but we took delivery of that little monster yesterday. It goes into my backtesting infrastructure. That is a fully loaded Dell M1000e blade center with 16 blades ;)

Got it cheap from - some company going out of business. While not totally new, the price was so low that basically I got the blades for free - the whole pack was cheaper than a used blade center normally is.

Even as - not totally new as it is, it will multiply the processing power for backtesting and optimization that I currently have by a factor of 3 or 4.

Stupid enough they fucked up the discs - I got them without discs, they did not send the trays (coming monday) but left 20 SAS discs in there - those are little 73gb Seagate SAS discs with 15k RPM.... NICE ;)

Will go into the rack today for testing - sadly (around 4kw power) it will boil my room. New 7kw cooling ordered, should come next week or the week after ;)

And if someone wonders - that picture was taken in my garage, the wood left and right is from some contracution work going on right now - they craftsmen use the garage to store fresh painted wood to dry ;)

Be careful of moisture from the lumber getting into the machines.

  6. Tell that to the guy who just dropped a cool $675k on an Apple 1, complete with plywood.

  7. Hardly.

The picture was taken when we moved the monster into the garage initially and took pictures for archival and warranty purposes.

It was moved into our server room within the next half hour (after taking it apart) and now safely rests at the lower end of a nice 19" rack. Workd - but sadly I can not turn it on without boiling the room (4kw power draw as it looks).

Monday they install a 7kw cooling system ;)

  10. CB, brilliant trading system, do you ever tire of all the data flowing at you? Twelve years ago I started to downsize my computer set up from ten clunky monitors to six screens. You get the same looks on your friends and guest face, "You work for the NSA or CIA, this office has more computers and monitors than NASA!".

Before I changed my Trading War Room over, the command center looked like this. My expensive broker foot the bill on most of my computer or did I pay for it? I could have had a gold-plated,diamond studded computer with a Clover Espresso attachment with all the over priced commission I paid.
