    new build

    i5 2500
    8 gb ram
    nvs 295
    2 x 24"asus

I keep it as simple as possible and I only trade a few markets so all I need

I had never built a computer before and was surprised at how simple it was.

    super low quality phone pic.

Bathrobe.... i'm thinking of building one....a few questions:

what background do you have for building computer

    is this your first build

how long did it take you from order to completion

what was the total cost for the box .... not the monitors

    thanks in advance

    Hi Toucan,

This is my first build and I was an extreme NOOB to computer hardware before I ran across this http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=223072 TIKITRADER thread in January.

I went towww.reddit.com/r/buildapc to look at other builds and www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales to find parts that were on sale after I knew what I wanted.

An awesome website for help with what you need and making sure all of it is compatible is www.pcpartpicker.com they allow you to put together a pc that fits what you need and then they direct you to websites with the best prices on the parts. Any questions I had I asked on www.TomsHardware.com or on the earlier site I mentioned www.reddit.com/r/buildapc Everyone I encountered here when asking stupid questions was very nice and eager to help.

I enjoyed doing this so much I may build my friend a new computer.

All my parts came from newegg.com prices were:

-i5 2500 Sandy Bridge $195, got on sale and free shipping (this was before ivy bridge came out) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115073

    -8 GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 RAM $44 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314

-500 GB Sea Gate Barracuda Hard Drive $74 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148767

-ASRock MOBO $64 (next time I build one I will use a mobo with more expansion slots for Graphics cards or whatever else. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157286

-NVS 295 $36 on ebay, many people pull these out of dell's or HP's and sell them for great deals. I am going to buy one more soon.

I don't think you need a card to run 2 monitors on an i3,i5, or i7 but look into it first.

    -520 watt 12v power supply $50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371030

    -LG CD/DVD/RW $16 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136240

-Rosewill case $45 came with 3 big fans http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153

-Windows 7 professional 64 bit $117 (I was using XP Pro for a while but it was a 10 year old or more operating system so I upgraded and am glad I did. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116992

SO, total of $591 and it all had free shipping from Newegg, which is pretty amazing.

I watched this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFkykETgkoo and it was very helpful for me but I was a beginner. I got my last piece of hardware on a Thursday, looked over the parts Friday morning and assembled the entire computer on Friday, with my naivete it only took me 1 hour 30 minutes to build.

if you have any questions at all pm me, if I come up with more sites to help I will let you know. I recommend it for a few reasons: Way cheaper, in my case this was about a third of the cost of my old (only 2 years) HP computer, no bloatware, probably much faster, and you only get what you want.

The pics of TIKITRADER's build scared me a bit at first but it is much simpler than it looks.

Good Trading and let me know if you need anything,

    Chris

Chris.... this is really great info.... thanks so much.... I have been thinking about building one myself.... the only thing different is that I have 6-24inch monitors that may require additional/upgraded hardware.

thanks again (too bad you don't live in danville, ca ) :)
